Today we’d like to introduce you to Maleny Mikels.
Alright, thank you for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us how you got started?
I’ve always been drawn to music ever since I can remember. I first started on the keyboards and switched to guitar, my main instrument. I studied classical guitar when I was eleven and started composing around the same age. A few years later, I switched to the electric guitar, which remains my main instrument and passion. I always knew I wanted to be a musician, but I also studied Communications and graduated from Law School. I moved to New York City in 2013 and lived there for various years, working as a full-time musician and performing with various bands and singers. I currently work as a studio musician, composing and tracking guitars for different projects.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a smooth road?
It hasn’t been easy, but it’s always been either fun or full of lessons and improvement. As a musician, there are struggles along the way. The pandemic hit the music industry pretty hard worldwide, but it seems things are going back on track little by little now.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Music is a passion you are born with, and you discover it along the way. I’m a guitarist and a composer; I love working on new music and collaborating with talented musicians worldwide; there’s always so much to learn. Since I record guitars and compose for other musicians, I’m always busy doing that for others, so the pandemic was an opportunity for me to work on my solo project finally. Released the first song and video called “In Between Worlds,” which is instrumental, with influences of rock, progressive and classical music.

Do you have any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
My favorite childhood memories are the ones related to music and discovering who I was and what I wanted to do.
