Community Highlights: Meet Victory Point Counseling

Today we’d like to introduce you to Victory Point Counseling.

Alright, thank you for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us how you got started?
We are four women who come from a wide variety of life experiences. On the surface, we don’t seem to match up. We’re not even from the same town. Sherry is from Middle Tennessee, Ashley is from Chattanooga, Renee is a military brat, and Lisa is from Buffalo. One of us is in her 60s, and the youngest of us is in her 40’s (we’ll let you figure that one out). We are all so very different, yet it seems destiny brought us together. Our journey had crisscrossed along the way, beginning in the ’80s when Sherry and Renee worked together at a local mental health agency. Lisa began working at the same agency in the 90s, and Ashley came along in the early 2000s. Though we didn’t all stay at the same agency initially, we continued to bump into each other along the way. Then, in 2012, as fate would have it, we began to work together in the same department. In a very short time, we formed a dynamic team recognizing that we shared the same passion for the families we were helping. While working in unison, we saw significant growth and positive change with our clients. This inspired us to do something we had never done before. We decided to start a private practice. This was a huge leap of faith for us all. But it just seemed like it was meant to be.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Life is never a smooth road, and we have encountered many bumps and unexpected turns. At first, it was a balancing act of seeing clients, cleaning bathrooms, being on call, and spending way too many hours on the phone with insurance companies. It seemed like we always had to move to a new location for a while. Whether our offices flooded or the building got sold, we found ways to
regroup as a team and get out the paintbrush and start over again each time. Perhaps our greatest challenge happened during the pandemic when we were forced to close our offices and move to online therapy. Online therapy has opened up a whole new world for us and the people we see. Many of our clients have busy lives and would otherwise be unable to make time in their schedule for
counseling. We’ve also noticed that some who were previously reluctant to go to counseling now feel more comfortable to give it a try because they have the luxury to participate from their car, home, back porch; Anywhere they want to be!

With every change, we learn something new about ourselves. Not only did we learn that we can do hard things, but we also learned that each time we paid attention, things always got better despite the pain of change.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Each of us has unique talents and energy to bring to our practice. With multiple years of diverse experiences we have the ability to offer services that highlight our skills, including all ages, couples, developmental and behavioral concerns, life transitions, grief, and trauma, to name a few. We have the uncanny ability to connect well with our clients. Most of them tell us
that they forget they’re on a screen! We’re in your neighborhood- we are invested in your community, have decades of experience, and are very knowledgeable of resources in your area.

So, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you before we go? How can they support you?
Our best advertisement is a satisfied person. We love to hear when someone feels they’ve been helped; even better when they tell their friends! Networking with other businesses and professionals help us stay connected and informed as well. Social Media. We hope our page can give our community day to day encouragement and reminders for daily life.
