Inspiring Conversations with Autumn Glomani of Glomani Graphics

Today we’d like to introduce you to Autumn Glomani.

Hi Autumn, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
I started my design practice, “Glomani Graphics,” in 2018. A friend wanted to start a business and paid for a branding package she never received. I then started playing around in Adobe Photoshop and created a logo for her. Since then, I’ve worked on a mix of projects from magazines, major consumer products, and retail storefronts to motion designs for an SSOBJayJay album from nothing but a selfie. When I started this, I had local customers from my hometown Cincinnati, OH, and Orangeburg, SC, that supported me and still do. As the months went on, we started expanding, adding more products and shipping. I decided to relocate to Nashville, TN, and change my major to Graphic Design to become a full-time entrepreneur. This is how I got where I am today, with faith and positivity. This was always something that I was doing for fun. Now it is my lifestyle.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
For the most part, it has been a smooth road. I always try to stay optimistic; every struggle that has come up is minor and could be fixed. The most challenging thing is quiet times in your business, and things aren’t coming in as quickly as they usually do. Even if you know, it’s coming. It’s not fun. It can be pretty demoralizing. I usually find myself asking, “Are people not seeing my work? Am I not spending time in the right spaces?” Knowing that there’s going to be a time when you’re low on work and having to simultaneously deal with all the doubts, thoughts, and emotions that come along can be the hardest part. I tackled this by figuring out my target audience and how to reach them through the social media algorithm. I wouldn’t have become the person I am today without these struggles. Things were rough. I’m a self-taught designer; I didn’t attend graphic design school initially. There were many times when I’ve almost given up on designing many of times especially when I didn’t know much. The moral is there are many hurdles in the business race, but you have to keep going if it’s something you are passionate about.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Glomani Graphics specializes in branding, product, and soon animation design. Branding focuses on the visual identity of a company or product. We help deliver the visual marketing message a brand wants to send and the target audience they wish to reach. Every aspect of branding design must align with these goals and fit into the larger aesthetic of the company/brand. Their branding often drives clients’ perception of a company, so graphic designers in this specialty put all their skills to work developing a visual brand that will connect with the target audience and project the right message about the company. This includes but is not limited to logos, website branding, business cards, signage, and company brochures. I like working on projects that require multiple components, such as logos, album artwork, mock-ups, business cards, etc. This way, I can help clients to build a whole brand, not just a website. What sets Glomani Graphics apart from other branding agencies is clients’ coaching on how to use their branding. I’m most proud of my business as a whole, as Glomani Graphics is minority and woman-owned. I’m also proud of the progress made since 2018 when this was just an idea.

Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
To those just starting, my advice to you and the consistent advice that I live by myself is that it doesn’t have to be perfect for you to start. Just do it. As far as networking, always have your elevator pitch ready. Attend events with like-minded people and make memorable conversations. What’s the worst that could happen? Take the leap and perfect it as you go, learn as you go, and grow as you go. Take your time; you will arrive in due time; until then, enjoy the ride and continue writing the story.
