Hidden Gems: Meet Trunetta Atwater of Soul Collective

Today we’d like to introduce you to Trunetta Atwater.

Hi Trunetta, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
I’m a photographer, coach, and truth-teller. I specialize in challenging entrepreneurs to bring their creative ideas to life through photos and education. My philosophy is to empower creatives to be fearless in their businesses, to be real with their audiences, and to maximize opportunities to promote their products and services. I believe creative businesses thrive as a tribe and it’s my passion to lead entrepreneurs to their full potential through community networking and collaboration, education, and expressive photography.

My journey started over 13 years ago as I started my photography business. Throughout those years, I’ve had the opportunity to successfully navigate through the challenges of entrepreneurship. I developed a passion for helping other bootstrapping small businesses along the way because it was difficult for me in the early stages to find the guidance that I needed to grow along the way.

Fast forward to today, my photography business is thriving better than ever before. I get to teach other small businesses the importance of pairing visual branding and the back end of business administration so they are better prepared to grow.

I’m also on this journey because the door to a traditional job/career didn’t open as expected, so I created it.

I created my dream job.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been a smooth road at all. Due to my husband’s career, my business has moved to three different states in the past 5 years. Starting over and re-building a business, and earning the trust of potential clients in an over-saturated industry has by far been a challenge.

The next challenge in the ever-changing market is understanding how to serve my ideal client the best. Doing so requires creativity and structured marketing campaigns. I had to really understand the importance of strategic marketing in order for my business to survive.

As you know, we’re big fans of Soul Collective. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Trunetta Atwater Photography is my business, my work helped me see a need in my community. I realized that black businesses suffer to scale beyond the side hustle. So I founded the SOUL collective, an entrepreneurial incubator focused on elevating the arts, culture, knowledge, and wellness of businesses through unity in commerce, education, and social entertainment. We’ve partnered with the a to bring business resources to underserved minority business owners. Our incubator is a 14-week program that focuses on business administration to visual branding. We also cover roundtable meetups and networking opportunities.

Within Trunetta Atwater Photography, my philosophy is focusing on the art of storytelling through portraits. My style is modern & classic. I’m known for helping individuals discover personal freedom, gain confidence, and maximize life. No matter if you are celebrating a milestone or elevating your career, I document the best version of you that you never knew existed. I do this through portraits, boudoirs, headshots, and visual branding.

My ability to hear my client’s needs and create opportunities is what sets me apart the most.

Brand-wise, I’m most proud because what I’ve learned I’ve been able to successfully share to help others grow.

I would like readers to know that they are welcome to allow me to help service their needs. My vibe is to help them be both comfortable and confident.

What do you like and dislike about the city?
I love Jackson, TN the most of all cities I’ve lived in because we have the most room to grow. We are small enough to get to know people without feeling like a needle in a haystack.

Trying to change the mindset of small-town living to create the culture of big-city living is what I like the least.
