Today we’d like to introduce you to Jasmine Young.
Hi Jasmine, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’m Jasmine, the owner of Jaszitup Nails which is based in Lebanon, TN. I grew up on the Southside of Chicago, IL. From what I remember, I first fell in love with nails at age 10. One day I went to the Roseland area to get a full set with Mickey Mouse airbrushed on each nail for only $15. From that moment, anytime I had the extra money, I would always choose my nails over shopping or anything else.
Over the years, I grew more and more intrigued with nail prep and the time and effort put into each set. I never truly felt comfortable asking strangers about their techniques. However, once my friend Shantika became a full-time nail tech, I had a list of questions for her (lol). Shantika has been my nail tech since 2017. After so many nail technique pep talks and even a few one-on-one nail classes over the years, in 2020, she gave me the idea to start with a press-on nail business. The idea came at the perfect time and was the perfect opportunity because it was the start of Covid-19, and not too many people felt comfortable being in crowded settings, so Jaszitup Nails was born and launched in June 2020.
Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
There have been obstacles along the way. I always say being an entrepreneur is not for the weak. There is always our vision versus reality. Of course, making multiple sales in a day is always nice, but sometimes you can go weeks without a sale. However, I have tried to still show up for my business each day because I believe in it staying around for the long haul. Jaszitup Nails is nowhere near where I envisioned it to be just yet.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a Press On Nail Artist specializing in creating nail sets for all hard-working women who prefer to have an instant manicure within less than 10 minutes. I am most proud of my business for continuing to thrive 2 years later. That alone is a blessing within itself. What sets me apart from others is being able to interact with customers/future customers for suggestions. This helps me to improve on key areas, have them connect with my brand, and hopefully see added value in purchasing with me.
Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting?
Yes, of course! My advice is to go for it! I started my business with $200 and was able to purchase everything that was needed. Several YouTube videos list everything you need to start your press-on-nail business. Once you’ve launched your business, please keep in mind to make the same effort to make the customer’s experience as easy as possible. Customer experience will have a major impact on how your brand is perceived.
