Today we’d like to introduce you to Dilan Gomez.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us how you got started?
Hello, my name is Dilan Gomez and I am a 24-year-old independent Latin pop and regional Mexican artist from Jonesboro, Arkansas, originally from Monterrey, Nuevo León, Mexico. My family and I moved to the United States when I was 5 months old and Arkansas has been my home ever since. Growing up, I always loved singing and listening to music. When I was about 5 years old, I was a member of my church’s choir and played a small tambourine. Then, when I got older, I joined the kid’s choir and still played the tambourine until I was about 13 years old.
All throughout my life, I have always been a shy person and it wasn’t until high school that I let it get the best of me. I started singing less because I was afraid of what might others might think of me. I felt like I didn’t fit in with the others in my grade because I didn’t fit their “norm.” Most of the guys in my small town were sporty. I tried to fit in by joining a small club soccer team but felt like it was not ME.
After graduating high school, I started gaining more confidence in myself and my creative music abilities. I joined my mom’s choir at church and sang for our church’s weddings, quinceñeras, etc., and started to feel my love for the music again. In 2020, I decided that I wanted to set a goal for myself and release my very first album. I started taking voice lessons to perfect my vocals and started to look for recording studios around me. I finally found one that was the right fit for me, 4U Recording in Memphis, Tennessee. I recorded my first song in October of that year and finished recording my debut album in February 2021.
My album debuted in June of 2021 and I currently have two singles out now in 2022. I also have two music videos streaming on YouTube. My musical journey has come a long way and the obstacles that life has put in my path have made me a stronger person/artist. I strive to make my parents and my followers proud of the person that I have become not only musically, but personally. I hope to continue to make and release more music in the near future. It is my hope that my story can hopefully inspire those who share a similar background as me. I want them to know that they are enough and to never stop believing in themselves, no matter what people may think.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No, there have been many challenges in my musical career. I struggled to find music producers to help create my music tracks. I also struggled to find a music studio that fit my genre.
Many studios didn’t necessarily believe in my talent and they turned me away. It was hard to find radio stations around me that were willing to play my music. I felt as if I had very little support in my small hometown, aside from my family and friends.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I sing Latin pop and regional Mexican music. I am known for living and simple and genuine lifestyle and it shows in the way that I present myself and my music, I am proud of having supporters that always listen to my music and keep up with my work.
I believe that my simplicity and humbleness set me apart from other artists. It is what makes me, me.
Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
I feel that my interpretation of songs that I sing gives me the most success. I always try to give 100% of my emotions when I’m recording and performing.
