Today we’d like to introduce you to Starr Mosley.
Hi Starr, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My name is Starr Mosley and I was born and raised in Memphis, TN. After graduating from the University of Memphis, I spent 15 years in various management/leadership roles in the airline industry. I married my husband, Jonathan, in 2008 and we have 2 kids (8 & 5). My husband and I had discussed leaving Memphis for years. When an opportunity opened at Nashville International Airport in 2019, it was an offer I couldn’t refuse. We moved to Nashville in September 2019, just before the pandemic. I continued in that role for 2 years (2019-2021, during the pandemic). Like many others, the effects of pandemic and being overworked took a huge toll on my mental health. I ultimately left the airline industry in 2021. I decided that I wanted to work for myself to have more control over my time in addition to financial freedom. I started working toward a career in real estate, but I didn’t necessarily want to be a real estate agent. After a few months of studying and researching the real estate industry and the different ways to earn income, THE NOTARY STARR was born. I also decided to work a “regular 9-5” until my business gets to a certain level financially. THE NOTARY STARR became a concept in 2021 and became a reality in 2022.
We all face challenges, but would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The road to “today” has not always been easy. Before I left the airline industry, my life had gotten to a point where I was working 7 days a week, anywhere from 14-18 hours a day. There would be days that I never got to see my family. They would be asleep when I went to work in the early morning hours, and asleep again by the time I came home late at night. When I decided to leave the airline industry, the salary I had become accustomed to also went away. As a result, I had to make some major adjustments to my budget and spending habits. Thankfully, my husband’s salary has always been enough to adequately take care of our family. I initially felt sad about leaving a career in an industry I had come to love so much. I absolutely LOVE being around airplanes in a fast-paced, unpredictable environment. However, it had become more of a burden and no longer a passion. My current full-time job allows me to have money to invest in my business. I have to say, again, thanks to my husband for being such a great provider and my biggest supporter. My current job also allows for more time with my family and, especially, for time for ME.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about The Notary Starr?
THE NOTARY STARR is a notary service that provides various services to companies and individuals. I am the owner and sole proprietor. Many services include, but are not limited to, the notarization of real estate documents, power of attorney, will and testaments, divorce forms, school records, medical records, affidavits, child custody/adoption forms, and more. Additionally, I assist those needing an Apostille that may be required for other countries, I-9 verifications, & wedding officiant. The various services can be provided in person for those in the Nashville Metropolitan Area. I also provide remote online notarizations for anyone regardless of being physically in Nashville. In most cases, appointments can be made for same-day service. I believe that my previous background in various professional leadership roles, completion of real estate courses, & being an excellent administrative facilitator has all prepared me to be successful with my notary business. I also feel that being tech savvy, adept, and having the flexibility to adapt to change sets me apart in this business. I am very proud of how far my business has come in this short time and look forward to its continued growth.
We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you.
I truly believe everything happens for a reason, whether it’s “good luck” or “bad luck.” I believe I have been extremely blessed to have all the experiences I’ve had so far (good and bad). Making it through the trials and tribulations gives you a better appreciation for the favor and happy times. Everything I’ve done personally and professionally has prepared me for this moment.
