Life & Work with Kasey Bruce

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kasey Bruce.

Hi Kasey, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My name is Kasey, and I am a videographer based in the San Francisco Bay Area. I help business owners build their communities using high-end video marketing. Growing up in the suburbs of San Francisco, I’ve been inspired endlessly by the talent and electricity in my community. I’ve always been a filmmaker at heart, but it wasn’t until a worldwide pandemic that I rediscovered my love for storytelling.

This is my story. In 2020, I had just graduated from college and worked part-time when the COVID-19 pandemic suddenly hit. Overnight, I went from running art activities and playing sports to tutoring kids on Zoom Calls 3-Hours a day. Staring at a screen for 8-hours a day gets old real quick. I tried to incorporate more “creative things” into my work, but that didn’t change how I felt. If anything, mixing my creative ideas with the work side drained me even more. Deep down, I knew I needed to make a change. I was burnt out but refused to leave the job. I thought about quitting many times, but fear held me back. Fear of Instability said, “you’re lucky even to have a job. Just get over it.” For so long, I let fear control what I did, what I shared, and what I could do. It was time to take action. I created a personal brand on social media and began sharing photos, videos, blogs – anything I wanted to rediscover my creative side. By sharing my projects online, I began to meet fellow creatives and expand my network. I refound my creative spark and realized it was possible to succeed in this industry! So now I’m here. A full-time content creator helping businesses grow with photo/video marketing. I can make a living doing videography with amazing businesses that value community and creativity. The crazy thing is – none of this would’ve been possible if I didn’t leap.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been smooth?
It hasn’t always been a smooth ride since going full-time into entrepreneurship. I’ve encountered many roadblocks and setbacks since starting my own business. The biggest struggles have been mindset based. In the beginning, I held many limiting beliefs that held me back. Changing how I view myself/my work has made the most change in my business.

Here are some of the beliefs I used to think before starting my business:

– The market is too saturated, and your work won’t stand out.
– Your work isn’t good enough.
– Creatives don’t make a lot of money so why try?
The change happens once you realize these “limiting beliefs” are simply stories. And stories can change. So much can happen when you stop believing the stories in your head and commit to doing the work. Ever since I shifted these ideas, I began to see growth. My self-confidence increased and I no longer let other people’s perceptions of me stop my creative drive.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I run a video production business that helps fitness brands grow using cinematic spotlights. This work can look light; social media content, commercial videos, client testimonials, ads, etc. I specialize in fitness brands; however, I have also done work in real estate, travel/tourism, and non-profit. Earlier this year, I shot a few commercial videos for a European travel agency. They service many cities abroad and within the US, like – San Francisco, Chicago, and Nashville!

Currently, I am focused on working with fitness brands in the US. I believe there’s a lot of opportunity to shoot fitness content where ever you go. It’s a niche that’s universal and unlimited in terms of potential clients. You could be a gym, personal trainer, or athleisure brand and still have a need for quality video content. One day, I would love to create work for brands like Nike, Gym Shark, or Alphalete.

What characteristic of yours would you give the most credit if you had to?
The most important quality of my success is my personal network. My friends, former colleagues, and social media connections all play a part in my business growth. Everything from a simple “share” on social media or a friend’s referral can generate a lot of leads over time.
My community is everything. They’ve been supporting me and my creative pursuits before I’d even considered it a possibility. I’d be nothing without my community.
