Today we’d like to introduce you to Jamiela Branch.
Hi Jamiela, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I am Jamiela Branch a 26 years old serial entrepreneur who was raised in Kingston, Jamaica, and growing up I loved everything beauty related. I remember being 12 years old and putting my mother’s face powder on and going to school looking like a powdered donut with a very shiny pout from my gloss that I always kept on deck haha.
Fast forward to a few years later I became a Makeup Artist in 2018 “Faces By Jam” and started my cosmetics brand “Jams Glam Room” in December 2019. I was still in the military and started this business as an extra source of income, since I was a Makeup Artist I thought why not sell glitters and glosses to other Makeup Artists and Enthusiasts?
It was only 3 months since I’d been in business and then came the pandemic and I was actually out processing out of the Army which was my main source of income at the time. Sales started to dwindle and I remember thinking to myself that I had to pivot and I had to do so quickly because I had no intentions of working for anyone else, Plan A was the only Plan I had and it had to work! That is when the idea came to me to start wholesaling cosmetics to other people wanting to start their own cosmetics businesses.
To my surprise, my third month of wholesaling was my very first five-figure month which I thought was insane! I realized that no one else was wholesaling glosses on the scale that I was, so I took it a step further by creating dozens of colors and scents for people to choose from and it just took off.
I realized how much my becoming a lipgloss vendor impacted thousands of people around the world to start a business and create income for their households during a very trying time in the world.
To date, I have had the pleasure of serving over 20 countries such as Botswana, Romania, and New Zealand to name a few, and have served 97% of the United States of America.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
If you had asked me this 6 months ago I would have said yes, I have always heard veterans in the business world say there are going to be times when you want to give up or that the first few years of business are going to be difficult but in my first two years of business there was simply nothing that got me to that breaking point. Did I have plenty of roadblocks that came my way? I sure did. Being an entrepreneur is absolutely not for the faint of heart, I would like to think that I am a tough cookie and my husband can attest to that, haha but I am very good at multi-tasking and I thrive under pressure I’m also very very patient.
I have trained my mind to not dwell too much on the problem but on the solution and I will always find a way to solve the issue. One of the challenges that I had which I would say is my biggest one yet is learning how to balance business and family time. I am married and have two boys one being a toddler, so It does get challenging being a full-time wife, mom, and entrepreneur. There are countless sleepless nights and away time from my family but I am always actively working to find a rhythm that fulfills both sides.
Freedom is one of the top reasons why I started my business in the first place, so putting automation and strategies in place so that my business can prosper in my absence is the ultimate goal.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a Makeup Artist who specializes in Bold Looks and Soft Glams at Faces By Jam. I started my makeup journey by posting creations I would do myself on Instagram every single day and I would draw Disney characters such as Dory, Little Mermaid, and Ursula on my eyes and just express myself through makeup.
My friends would always tell me that I should do makeup on others and that is when I branched out and started practicing on family and friends. I started traveling to clients to do their makeup in the comfort of their homes, whether it was for prom, birthdays, photoshoots, etc. I also enjoy doing bridal makeup and have been tapping into that niche even more lately.
For me it’s more than a makeup appointment, I have had many women tell me that they think they are too dark to wear makeup and it just makes me so happy when I see their reaction to them seeing how beautiful they look and see them leave me with their confidence level on ten brings me so much joy within.
For my beauty brand Jams Glam Room, I offer lipgloss starter kits, lip oils, lip scrubs, and over 30 lipgloss options for those who want to start their business for themselves or for their daughters and nieces.
There is a gloss or gloss bundle for every season and holiday which helps set my customer’s businesses apart from everyone else. I really take pride in having excellent customer service and quality vegan products that lasts without being sticky on the lips.
I have over 750 five-star reviews on my Etsy shop and the majority is about my customer service and the quality of the products. Each product is made to order and made by me with love and that’s what sets Jams Glam Room apart.
I also do graphic design and business consulting for my customers or those wanting assistance when it comes to starting and scaling their beauty business to four and five-figure months in my Facebook group “Six Figure Gloss Boss”.
I have gained a massive amount of knowledge throughout my years in business which has led Jams Glam Room to be a multi-six-figure brand in just 2 years, I try to do as much as I can to give back to my community the best way I know how to.
Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
I am very much thankful to God, my husband, family, and friends who have always supported whatever I put out.
My customers and clients have a very special place in my heart because they made this possible and continue to show up for me and their brand.
I enjoy reading over my reviews ever so often and it pushes me to continue helping those whether it’s through my glam sessions, encouraging words, or five-star products.
