Meet Chelsey Meyer of Elliot Interiors

Today we’d like to introduce you to Chelsey Meyer.

Hi Chelsey, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
I had the most wonderful childhood in Lake Tahoe before moving to Nashville in 2007 to go to Belmont. I changed my major many times before I dropped out and got married. I had my first child soon after and then two more after that.

I got divorced and have spent the last few years really focusing on my spiritual and emotional development. Investing time and energy into the things that light me up and fulfill me and can honestly say that my life truly gets better and better every day. I am so blessed and happy to be where I am and surrounded by people I love.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Obviously, a divorce would appear to be an obstacle that I never expected but it was really a huge turning point for me. It thrust me not only into a spiritual awakening but a general personal one.

I have really been able to get to know myself, my passions, and my goals in a way I would never have been able to before. It’s made me a more present mother, friend, and partner (at times). I have learned to prioritize my health and happiness and have really enjoyed where life has led me. I did walk through a prophylactic double mastectomy at the end of 2020 and this was something that was a huge challenge for many reasons. I am so happy I chose to do this, despite how awful the process was to make sure my kids will have their mom around as long as possible. I lost my mom for ovarian cancer in 2016 and I wish that on no one.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
I started Elliot Interiors about 4.5 years ago. I had recently had my daughter and transitioned after an early career in custom menswear and styling. I always had an interest in interiors and had looked into starting a career many times. I was burnt out with my current life and after randomly meeting a few designers in town, decided to take the plunge. I was so fortunate to meet these people early on as they really supported me and helped me in those early days of creating a business. I spent most of my days with my kids and filled the free time with nailing down my personal design style, learning about how to actually run a business (lots of trial and error here), and working with my first clients. Between then and now, I went through a divorce, grew my business during Covid, and had a double mastectomy. I feel incredibly fortunate to be where I am today and to have a career that fulfills me as a creative and allows me the time and space to live my life to the fullest with my kids and interests.

The biggest challenge ended up being the biggest blessing. My business was just beginning to gain traction when Covid hit. I had my biggest potential projects all pull out. I chose to shift my mindset from fear to creativity. I took a step back and looked at the reality of people being stuck in their homes and also a bit afraid to spend money and created what ended up being my most popular service, Design In A Day. This service alone has shifted and adapted so much based on trial and error and what people want/what is best for me and my business. This service sits at an affordable price point, is done virtually, and allows the client to have total control over the ordering and installation of their project. I have had so many amazing clients find me through this service and it really created my business at a time when things were looking dreary. It has also allowed me to practice my design skills and really hone in on how to best serve my clients.

I primarily focus on full-service projects that include large and small residential renovations and furnishings. I truly love all of my clients and it is the most rewarding experience to have the opportunity to create the backdrop to their lives. We create beautiful and functional spaces that leave negative space for the clients’ to live in and create their own stories and homes. I am endlessly inspired by nature and use mostly Earth tones and textures in my designs.

Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
Presence. Being present in my life has created so much happiness. It’s helped me move through stress, anxiety, FOMO, and imposter syndrome.

To really be in the moment (which is truly all that actually exists) has changed everything for me.

We can choose this and choose to be happy in every moment and it’s my wish for everyone reading this.
