Today we’d like to introduce you to Jaycee King.
Hi Jaycee, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Music has always been in my blood, my dad (Mitch Jean) always played guitar around showed me tons and tons of music growing up I was destined to fall into the musical path one way or another. I started playing guitar at the age of 12 and put together my first band at 14 with a few high school buddies, we were called “Rocktread” hahaha. I started off as the lead guitarist but when our singer left the group I had to step up and sing while still playing lead guitar. Then when the band fell apart I was 16 and my dad was just starting his new music project as “Mitch Jean” I asked him if I could join. I played for my dad for about 4-5 years playing shows all around northern Ontario and few shows down south. It gave me so much learning experience at a young age, I am so lucky to have had that opportunity. But my dream was always to eventually go on my own and make my own project. So a the end of the summer tour with my dad, I left the band to attend a Music production program in North Bay, ON and now playing small acoustic gigs to get my name out while slowly building my band.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road haha. Being in a band is not just being in a band, it’s being part of a family. There’s a lot of emotion, blood, sweat and tears. Also, it’s trying to get and find musicians that will be on the same page and hearing criticism from friends/family and even random people that will try and tell you “that’s it’s not a smart path”, “you’ll never make it”, “it’s not really a job” and etc… But you just have to ignore those comments and do what’s good for you.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a country rock artist, I love to play, write and perform music. In music, I’m known for my rebellious tendencies and stage presence. Back in high school, I used to get told to not move around so much cause I was taking attention away from the singers but it went in one ear out the other hahaha. I can’t help myself move around and go wild when I’m on stage. It feels like I’m a kid in a candy running, jumping and getting the crowd’s attention by singing songs they love and getting them to sing and dance along with me, it’s such a thrill. What I’m most proud of is how much knowledge, experience and how far I’ve come from that 12-year-old me who would lock himself in his room for hours trying to nail that Crazy Train riff lol.
How can people work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
People can work with me by making/making music with me, organizing shows, etc… So many opportunities in the music business the possibilities are endless. And for support anything counts, whether it’s coming to a show, watching my livestreams, saying hello if you see me in public, I appreciate every supporter because if it wasn’t for them, I wouldn’t be performing for people as it’s my favorite thing to do.
