Rising Stars: Meet Jennifer Kearns

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennifer Kearns.

Hi Jennifer, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work life, you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
For some unknown reason, I fell in love with the French horn at age 11. This journey led me to my Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in French horn performance and then performing in touring Broadway shows in the US and Japan throughout my 20s. In my 30s, I moved to Las Vegas, where I performed in Broadway shows at the casinos and got called to serve with big stars such as Lady Gaga, Rihanna, Kanye West, Jennifer Lopez, and Hugh Jackman. I became the owner/producer of my band. Which also performed at the casinos and around the US at different events. I went back to school and became a music teacher, so Las Vegas became the place where I could do everything I loved. During my 11 years in Las Vegas, I performed as a musician, taught elementary music full-time, became a yoga teacher, and became a foster parent.

Music, teaching, learning new things and giving love through fostering children as my service fulfilled me in all the ways I wanted. I always follow my heart and wish to participate fully in life in things I am passionate about. I follow the adage, “do what you love, and love what you do.” I also cared for my mother, and the catalyst for my change to sound therapy and moving to Tennessee was when I lost my mother at the end of 2021. I wanted to be closer to family and make sure that my remaining years were spent in service to others through music by becoming a sound therapist, something I had wanted to do for a long time. Within 6 months, I sold my home. I moved to Chattanooga, inhaling information about sound therapy with a passion and drive, doing different workshops and certifications, and being completely fascinated with this new side of music used to help and heal people. Many of the music concepts were familiar to me but seen through a lens of science and biology to create greater well-being and healing for others. Sound healing combines my passion for serving others with my passion for performing as a musician.

Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Sometimes life is smooth; sometimes, you must ride the roller coaster! Being goal-driven and passionate was a challenging road. My days were filled with everything I loved, but the days were long. I would work full-time teaching and then play a show 5-7 nights a week. At times I was also managing my band, which ran as my small business, organizing events, musicians, producing the music, and everything else that went with having the band ready for an event. When I returned to school to get my teaching license, I bartended at night to pay my bills and for my college education, performing concerts and shows and going to school during the day. It was grueling, but I knew I would have the reward of being able to teach children and also perform and have the life that I had dreamed of.

My Mother’s passing was what I call a “life earthquake,” and the move to Tennessee from Las Vegas was a stark contrast. It wasn’t easy, but I knew it was getting me closer to my new goals of becoming a sound therapist, being closer to family, and being in a beautiful natural environment surrounded by my southern roots. The long-term journey here is for me to continually move closer to my authentic self, as life has guided me in this direction and will continue to do in all the many twists and turns that bring you closer to your true self.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a sound therapist and work with frequencies, sounds, and vibrations to heal. I use precisely tuned tuning forks, tone bars, therapeutic drumming, and singing bowls to carry pure and potent frequency into the body, mind, and spirit. I also use carefully selected songs and music for healing and entrainment. Sound therapy works through a process called sympathetic resonance. This is when vibrations match the rate of vibration from another source. For example, your brain catches up and syncs with the soothing frequencies from playing therapeutic-grade instruments. Pure tone frequencies from tuning forks stimulate nitric oxide in the body, which has been proven scientifically to create relaxation and enhance cell vitality, vascular flow, and heart healing. Nitric oxide enhances the immune system, increases stress resistance and greater energy levels, sharpens mental clarity, diminishes depression, and improves digestive and natural cleansing.

I have seen the power of sound do amazing things for people. I have clients who feel muscle tension relief, stress relief, a sense of peace and well-being, relief from Parkinson’s, emotional issues, and anxiety. The sound is so powerful! Albert Einstein, I think, would agree when he said, “Future medicine will be the medicine of frequencies”- Albert Einstein.

My experience with music as a musician and performer makes me unique. My journey began at age 6 when I started playing piano. French horn at age 11 took me to a Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in French Horn, and from there, I began performing in Broadway shows touring the US and Japan, and then ended up in Las Vegas, where I performed with celebrities and shows for 11 years. With this background in music, I come to sound therapy, transforming this knowledge into sounds and music that heal. I conduct group sound baths with audio background tracks that I create myself, layering in many frequencies of the Earth, combinations of notes that heal and using harmonics and music theory to craft the musical experience carefully.
