Today we’d like to introduce you to Charles Cleyn.
Hi Charles, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I started playing piano and strumming the guitar at a young age. Growing up, learning an instrument was encouraged in my family, or should I say, enforced. After high school, I played in a cover band that graduated to a folk band. I took on a solo singer-songwriter career that was hijacked by joining a tech startup for six years. After this, I jumped back into my singer-songwriter roots. Since then I’ve released 3 EPs, actively tour North America and Europe while documenting all of this experience on my YouTube channel.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The struggle has always been to find your own path and your own voice. To find the self-confidence that sets you apart from everyone else. At the beginning of any path, there is always concern about what to do, when to do, how to do it. Not to mention the endless void of trying to get recognized in order to build your career. Managing all these emotions bears a lot of weight and it’s been a constant challenge since I started.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I tell stories through music. I have the skill set to create music from scratch, playing multiple instruments which has given me the opportunity to produce for many independent artists. I’m known to be a great teacher and I’m proud of giving back to those who want to learn about songwriting and production. I love doing this through documenting my own career as a performer, writer, and producer while building a following on YouTube that is unique to me.
