Rising Stars: Meet Briana Williams

Today we’d like to introduce you to Briana Williams.

Hi Briana, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I have always loved entertaining my friends by telling stories and being animated. I got into podcasts by shows like The Read, Code Switch, and Black on Black Cinema. One day, I was live on Tiktok with a friend, and our natural back and forth was highly entertaining and we thought about starting our own podcast. Eventually, it turned into a one-woman show where I was able to create a space for fellow introverted, curious, queer, people of color to discuss anything under the sun. Auntie’s Toy Box began in June of 2021 and I invited people to talk about different topics of life, growth, and sex from their perspectives.

Today, I excitedly await the return of season 2 on September 8th on all podcast streaming platforms. We have transitioned a bit from the “toy” of every other week format and focus more on growth in all factors of life. I am looking to get more people and professionals on the show as we prepare for the rest of season 2, the beginning of season 3, and beyond!

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
I like to believe that anything worth having is worth working for. It has not always been an easy road as a beginning podcaster. I did not have a massive social media following before starting, so trying to promote the show and reach out to brands, businesses and sponsors has been a struggle. My mental health has not been at its peak, but I still have wanted to get an episode out. Being the sole person in every aspect of the podcast can be extremely draining. At the end of the day, I love my podcast and all of the new people I have been connected with because of it.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am the host of Auntie’s Toy Box, a weekly podcast where we discuss life, growth, and sex from the perspective of a black, queer, single, millennial, auntie. I have always considered myself an artist and have tried my hand at many different forms of artistic expression. I have danced, painted, done photography tried my hand at voiceovers, and am now in my podcasting era. I am always proud of my ability to try new things to figure out what my “thing” is. I think what sets me apart is my ability to reach out to those around me with more knowledge than myself to help me grow.

Any big plans?
I hope to continue to grow the podcast audience and to reach more people every week. I hope to get more assistance from others to make the podcast as great as I know that it can be!
