Meet Tamara Milford of Enchanted Learning Academy

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tamara Milford.

Hi Tamara, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I guess my story really begins when my mom moved us to Nashville from Chicago. She was tired of the growing violence in the city and wanted change for her children so she moved us to Nashville. Everything was going as well as expected in a new city until April 21st, 2012 when my mother was killed. That’s where my story took a turn and I had to find my voice in a time filled with pain and confusion.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has not been smooth. Growing up as a teenager in the foster care system was definitely tough. I was really ashamed and did not like telling people that fact about myself. I missed out of a lot of experiences going through school being in foster care. I wasn’t your average teenager. I grew up very quickly after my mom passed and I honestly never fully healed from that experience. I just learned how to continue moving forward.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Enchanted learning academy will be ready to launch very soon. I took my experiences and turned a tragedy into my triumph and I am excited to help everyone find their voices. In the first phase of the academy, I will be focusing on teens that’s about to transition to college. I am excited to take a few lucky students under my wing and help them navigate their way to college! I was blessed to graduate with my undergrad degree in two years with no debt and I want to help some others do the same!

Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
Don’t be afraid to put yourself out there! Find out what it is that you want to do and then go from there. Social media will be a big help in finding some great mentors who have been able to successfully master what it is that you want to do!
