Today we’d like to introduce you to Wyanetta Wakefield.
Hi Wyanetta, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
My very first experience with yoga was in the mid-90s. My friend invited me to a partner yoga class at a business called The Hungry Bear in the mall that doesn’t exist anymore… then he ghosted me!!! So I had to partner up with someone I didn’t know, but it was an interesting experience. Later around 2009 or so I had a group of friends who owned a music venue called The Coup and we would guide our friends through a yoga class on the rooftop… we didn’t really know what we were doing but people showed up and it was a lot of fun.
Around 2013 I apprenticed under Felicia Robinson. She gave me an amazing foundation for yoga. She eventually closed her studio and I didn’t get to finish my training and quit yoga for a few years. But, I missed it and knew if I didn’t get my certification I would regret it so in 2018 I did my training through Asheville Yoga Center with the most amazing teachers and YTT group.
I’ve been teaching for four years now and decided to try my hand at having a studio of my own! Humble Heart has been open for about seven weeks and it’s been quite an adventure. I’m so lucky to have such great support and encouragement from friends and family.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The first couple of weeks were definitely wonky lol I am not computer literate and trying to troubleshoot the hiccups of learning the software was… challenging!
I was on the phone every day with support, several times a day for nearly two weeks! But, things have definitely smoothed out and I’m more familiar with the software so I’m starting to figure things out on my own. And… I have someone to take care of my website now so… yay!
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Humble Heart Yoga Studio is dedicated to creating an inclusive, supportive, authentic environment and experience for our students and community. Our practice honors the foundations of yoga and is rooted in gratitude, inspiring growth in mind, body, breath, and spirit.
Integrity and honesty in speech and action are core values in which we encourage respect for the personal beliefs of all teachers and students. We also like to have fun!
Any big plans?
We’ve only been open for seven weeks so there’s so much to look forward to! Next year we look forward to having fun events, and some workshops… I would love to have guest teachers and definitely looking into offering Teacher Training.
