Conversations with Olivia Flint

Today we’d like to introduce you to Olivia Flint.

Hi Olivia, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
One of the most exciting things about sharing my story is knowing that it is still unfolding. There are so many experiences, joys, obstacles, and endeavors to come. I am a recent college graduate who started out intensely job searching while feeling discouraged because I knew that my dreams were bigger and different than any position I could apply for. I wanted to create, I wanted to live purposefully, and I wanted to travel the world. With time, I realized that I could still carry all of those desires with me while walking through a door that promised stability but not fulfillment. Actually, there’s only one thing that can provide true fulfillment in our lives, and a good job isn’t it. I already have all that I need to experience the fulfillment we naturally crave, so great things are just additions. Prayer goes into most things that I do: What I should do for work, how to pursue my goals, who to encourage… I inquired of God what was next for me after graduation.

It was very clear that I needed to surrender my constant need for adventure and excitement in order to live each day with an adventurous and excited heart simply where my feet are. I applied to jobs all over the place (even internationally), and the opportunity that opened up for me was at home in Franklin, Tennessee. I studied Communications at my university and now work in the Client Services department at a digital marketing agency. I am able to suggest fresh ideas for website rebuilding… “to create.” I am able to serve my team and clients daily… “to live purposefully.” And recently I visited my agency’s London office… “to travel the world.” In a way I never anticipated, I am doing the things I’ve always wanted to do. As a storyteller, I am inspired to share my simple but interesting life with others. I know that my professional career is just the first step in building a life of intentionality as I seek out opportunities to use my gifts, and for that I am grateful!

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
I guess some roads are smooth, but most aren’t… I think struggles make us more resilient and empathetic; we should count on them positively when we face trials.

I certainly have faced some challenges on the road arriving to where I am now. I’ve had to fight anxiety, feelings of inadequacy, and my own flesh. There are many things I am still working through, but the end of the story has not yet come.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Personally, I am a storyteller. I share about my travels, visions, and life in online spaces. I use my Instagram account to blog about my experiences abroad (@sheblogsabroad). As one who is drawn to aesthetics, I delight in sharing my photographs along with my words. Professionally, I work as a liaison between my agency and our clients. We specialize in digital experience design and marketing.

It is important that communication stays effective and strong as we identify our client’s needs and fulfill them. Our world is highly technological, so it is my job to ensure that our client’s website is well accessible and that their brand is represented well. I believe that I am set apart because of my attitude – I exude an eagerness to learn, remain available to my team, and see the good.

Do you have any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
My favorite childhood memory is going on camping trips with my family.

The crisp morning air. The scent of lingering smoke in my hair. The elation of cracking eggs on a camp stove. Sitting around a fire with the people I love…
