Today we’d like to introduce you to Stephanie Korn.
Hi Stephanie, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for sharing your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers.
It is interesting how life’s twists and turns usually lead you to where you are meant to be. That is exactly how I would describe my journey in starting Stephanie Korn Wellness LLC. After graduating college, I received a Master’s in Education and taught at an elite NYC girls’ private school. I loved it and taught until I had my first daughter, Sarah. Fast forward six years, I had three amazing girls, but I was ready for another challenge. I have always been interested in health, nutrition, and the human body. I decided to go for it and earned my Bachelor of Science in Nursing. I was fascinated throughout my program but constantly overwhelmed with navigating the life of a student and the life of a mother with three young girls. Ultimately, I’ve never been more proud of the day I graduated, with all three of my kids alive and thriving. It was a long but worthwhile two years. My nursing journey continued as I worked on one of the busiest floors in NY’s premier hospital. I loved getting to know my patients and their families, but as a nurse, I always felt like something was missing in their care. Although we were providing acute or more immediate care, the concepts of nutrition, stress management, and an overall holistic approach to wellness were not addressed. Over time I began to feel like this was a vital piece of the puzzle.
Once the pandemic hit, my husband and I decided it was the right time to leave New York. He and his partner decided to relocate their headquarters to Nashville, so here we are! I used the pandemic as a time to regroup and recenter my priorities. I had space to ask myself what I truly wanted to focus on and how I wanted to move my career forward. Settling three children, then ages 17, 15, and 11, took some time, so thankfully, I wasn’t in a rush. I decided that the next step in my journey was to combine my love of health with my passion for education, and Stephanie Korn Wellness LLC was born. I got certified as a Nutrition Coach through NASM and pursued my personal training certification soon after. I began to get referrals, and business took off from there. I believe that knowledge is power, which differentiates me from other coaches. I work hard to educate my clients on the “why” we are doing what we do while simultaneously exploring the “how” to get the results they want.
While I work with clients on many health and wellness issues, my primary focus is sustainable weight loss. An ideal client is a woman over 40 who has been trying to lose the same 10-20 lbs repeatedly, has tried multiple fad diets, and spends a large amount of their time thinking about their body, food, or exercise. We address these issues while incorporating mindset work, enabling long-term change. I work with clients 1:1, in small groups, and through thrive, my group coaching program co-led with Dr. Katherine Haney, an unbelievable GYN and Obesity Specialist here in Nashville.
Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The road has not been too bumpy, but it does require patience. When you move to a town where you don’t know a soul, meeting people takes time, and getting your name there takes time. That didn’t happen overnight. My biggest struggle in launching a new business has been social media as a mom. I had to learn things like branding, making reels on Instagram, and deciding what and when to post the list. Nowadays, social media platforms act as business cards and a way for people to learn more about you. So while there have been times when I wanted to throw my phone out the window, I realize that a social media presence is important to be successful in today’s world. My clients come to me because they have a problem that they want to solve, and they need guidance and support to do that. Well, I had to take that same leap. I invested in a business coach who specialized in social media branding. I believe that you get out what you put in, in any area of coaching. Over the last year, I have grown more confident on Instagram and hope to offer value to those who follow StephanieKornWellnessLLC.
Thanks for sharing that. So, you could tell us a bit more about your business.
I am very proud of the services that I offer my clients. Whether it is 1:1 coaching or a group experience, my clients receive a ton of personal attention. I cap my client roster, so I keep a personal connection with every person I work with. I am constantly communicating with my clients through my client portal, text message, or email. I tell them that we need to address problems in real-time, so they know to reach out for suggestions, tweaks, or questions throughout the week. Many coaches funnel clients into a basic program that needs to be individualized. At Stephanie Korn Wellness LLC, we focus on four main pillars: mindset, metabolism, macronutrients, and movement. Within that construct, I tailor the education and weight loss process to the needs of the women I work with. I want to be the “last stop.” My goal is that my clients leave SKWellness with the knowledge and power to maintain the healthy habits and strategies they have learned for the rest of their lives.
