Today we’d like to introduce you to Norman Ragan.
Norman, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Hard Reset started as a fun hardcore band in 2018 between the current bassist, Elijah Morrell, and a good friend of ours, Jacob Morton. I was invited to join the band as the vocalist. After I joined, I began helping with writing the music. We have had a few member changes since then, but our current lineup we feel is the most solid. We are just five guys looking to have fun and play music together. The atmosphere of the band is very stress-free and we all acknowledge that we’re here to have a good time together.
Since 2018, we have released two EPs (Mount Crushmore, Game Over), two additional songs to the Game Over EP (we call it a DLC), four singles, and one cover song. The theme of our image has primarily been video game oriented. The name Hard Reset is actually from the video game Tekken and a lot of our song titles reference video games. We recently released a single entitled “Nashville Heavy.” Currently, we are in the process of organizing and structuring the release of the next EP.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
For the most part, it has been a smooth road. We have done our best to keep this band as stress-free and lighthearted as possible. It’s understood that we have our own lives and Hard Reset was meant to be a fun outlet for us.
There has been tension at certain points in time, but that’s to be expected out of any relationship. Every time we have the chance to get together, it’s nothing but fun and I believe we all feel fortunate for that.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Hard Reset is a five-piece heavy hardcore band based out of Nashville, Tennessee. We formed in 2018. We enjoy writing heavy, intense music with lyrics that are focused on mental health struggles, negative influences of the digital world, and our own personal struggles as humans. One thing we are proud of was being able to donate money to help with access to abortion care. Our good friend, Zach Whitley, who is also the graphic designer for our album art and merchandise, designed a Pro-Choice shirt for us.
We donated all the profits from sales to various organizations that assisted with helping people get access to abortion care. This was a cause that we all believed in and it felt nice to be able to help. I don’t believe there is anything that distinctly sets us apart from others. There are so many talented bands on this planet that play this style of music. We just want to play heavy music and have fun as friends.
One thing that we are all very grateful for, and proud of, is having been able to ship merchandise out all across the United States and other countries. Our merchandise is all across the globe. That blows our minds. We are so thankful to have reached people as far as we have. We also know of people in Canada that have Hard Reset tattoos. That’s incredible. We are humbled by the love we receive. We are incredibly thankful to know we impacted people so positively.
Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
If you got this far, thank you for reading. It means a lot that you spent your time doing so. Life can be hard and you all deserve to live happy and fulfilling lives.
