Rising Stars: Meet Mrs. Shockley

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mrs. Shockley.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Hello! My name is Mrs. Shockley, and I started my blog called “A Home for Elegance” back in 2014. I have always loved home decor and fashion and wanted to begin to share it with like-minded people. I have consistently published 3 blog posts a week sharing my travel adventures, wardrobe finds, and antique purchases for the last 9 years. I have loved every minute of being a blogger. Last year I decided to add another element to my website by adding a dress boutique! I now sell a curated collection of dresses that are for the classy everyday woman! I love finding clothing and want to encourage women to enjoy being women. There is nothing like it!

I am also an influencer on an app called ShopLTK. On this app, I share my home finds and fashion finds. It’s a wonderful app to follow talented women and men. There is great diversity in it as well. And lastly, I am a brand ambassador for a luxury shoe company called Sarah Flint! I adore this company. Sarah is an outstanding shoe designer and creates shoes that are beautiful as well as comfortable. Her first store opened in Nashville Tennessee. I was really honored to be chosen to work with such a sophisticated shoe company as this!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I would say for the obstacles have been trying to find balance. I still work a full-time job; I am a mother and wife. I think trying to find time to make sure that everything still gets accomplished as well as doing things that you enjoy is very hard. My family is very supportive and so is my boss so that has helped me in creating a life schedule that works for me. One of my mentors told me some time ago that “you have to have other things going on in your life besides your job”.

That quote has stuck with me. I not only write blog posts, sell dresses for my boutique, and create content for Instagram but I also volunteer. I recently joined a group called “The Guild” here in my city and we raise money for a hospital here that is working toward building a facility to aid in mental health.

So, there are challenges in trying to do so many things but it is so fulfilling.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I work as a paralegal supervisor for the government. I have worked at my office for about 18 years, and I love the career that I have there. I also volunteer for the Indiana Paralegal Association. Our group meets every month to network, discuss our work, and provide solutions to making our profession more efficient.

I have volunteered for Dress for Success. I loved this organization. I worked in the boutique area of the course and assisted women who didn’t have the funds to purchase clothing for interviews. I would assist them with finding their wardrobe and preparing for their interviews. It was so rewarding to see each client leave in her new suit and feel empowered to attend her next interview!

Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
My favorite books are the Bible, John Maxwell Leadership books, and etiquette books. For fun, I love to read home decor books such as Aerin Lauder Entertaining Beautifully, Beauty at Home, Cathy Kincaid, and Victoria Magazine. I am a fan of Jennifer L. Scott’s books from the Daily Connoisseur, and I am featured in her monthly “Elegant Connoisseur” list on YouTube.

Favorite YouTube channels are Jennifer L. Scott from the Daily Connoisseur, Dominique Sachse, Downshiftology, Emmalyn Love, Nicolas Fairford, Gorogoro Kitchen, Kevin Lee Jacobs, HomeWorthy, and Schumacher 1889.

My favorite podcasts are Maxwell Leadership Podcasts, The Journal, We Can Do Hard Things with Glennon Doyle, The Career Contessa Podcast, and Suze Orman’s Women & Money.
