Life & Work with Brittany Sain

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brittany Sain. Them and their team share their story with us below:

Achieving Freedom was founded by Brittany Sain who has nearly a decade of experience as a Social Worker and a great passion for overall wellness and mental health. After years of personal exploration and doing work towards self-improvement, Ms. Sain realized that everything that she strives for in every way could be linked to ‘freedom’. Whether it was freedom from a cluttered mind, freedom of judgment, freedom from societal pressures, and so on. She just wanted to be the best version of herself without worrying about what someone else may think or how it may be viewed.

Achieving Freedom is a brand all about promoting self-care, providing education on self-care practices, and providing opportunities for people to practice self-care. Self-care is defined by Oxford as the practice of taking an active role in protecting one’s own well-being and happiness, in particular, during periods of stress. Achieving Freedom recognizes that during those moments, it can be difficult to remember to take care of yourself. We want to be your reminder and your resource.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has not been a smooth road to success for me at all. It was difficult to turn my idea into something concrete. It was tough to recognize that I could create something that mattered and was impactful. I was very worried about if anyone would connect to my mission. I also do not come from the influence of a lot of entrepreneurs. Figuring out how to set up and run a business has been an uphill battle and I have had to continue to learn as I go.

I also promote and educate people on self-care because I have struggled with it myself. Not everyone recognizes that the way you take care of yourself is present in every area of life. That includes being organized with the way you work. Not having that organization leads to stress, anxiety, health issues, etc. I get flustered and overwhelmed at times and have to prioritize myself so I have the bandwidth to stay focused. That’s a big struggle for me and so many others.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a Licensed Master Social Worker by day. I have worked in mental health, criminal justice, and healthcare. My current specialty is in renal care working with dialysis patients. I help provide support with resources, and mental health support, and help to remove barriers to their care. I’m very proud of my work. I do something that matters to me and impacts the lives of those I work with. I take my profession very seriously because I recognize that the things I do or don’t support can actually change the trajectory of so much for them. For instance, I’ve had a patient in the past say that they did not want to pursue treatment after being diagnosed with cancer.

It had been some time since their diagnosis and that had been the overall understanding of how they wanted to proceed with their care prior to me starting to work with them. After speaking with them for a while I found out that they were actually unable to afford their copays for the doctor’s visits and was able to help them get assistance so they can get support/treatment. It’s days and moments like that that make me proud. I truly care about my clients/patients and they really seem to feel that and appreciate it.

Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
Something that people may not know about me in relation to my brand is that I don’t have it all together.

None of us have it all together. In today’s world of social media, everything is a highlight reel. People see you in an instant and believe that’s the only way things are going in your life.

They see me practicing self-care and informing others of ways to do it too and think that I must always be calm and take good care of myself. The truth is we all are in the same position, I may know a lot of options for self-care but some days I skip it. I just make sure to remind myself and continue my self-care journey again and again. I prioritize myself and give myself grace when I fail to do so.
