Daily Inspiration: Meet Cody James Wood

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cody James Wood.

Hi Cody, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I was always told that my grandfather I never met was a musician and when I got my first real guitar around the age of 12 I ended up playing around the kitchen table with people that knew my grandfather and ended up playing a lot of the same songs he played.

From there I started writing my own songs mainly with my high school band and caught the bug after that. Dabbling in a few different styles and genres. I came full circle back to country music and that’s been my mainstay for the last decade or so.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Anything worth doing is never without its speed bumps. A lot of the time just being a working musician is a battle in itself. From losing friends and bandmates to their own struggles to tackling obstacles like trying to find your audience and carve out your spot in the business.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m a singer-songwriter and working musician. I feel like I specialize in playing music that is a little outside of the mainstream but yet stuff that is still relatable and thought-provoking. I’m super proud of the music that I’ve released so far. Such as my song “If I were the Devil”.

What matters most to you? Why?
That’s a tough question. To me, authenticity is probably what matters most. There’s no sense hiding behind a facade.

It makes more sense to be as authentic and real as possible.
