Today we’d like to introduce you to Brooke Black.
Hi Brooke, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
I’ve always had a passion for clothes and fashion. There are so many choices and ways to express yourself and to stand out. So I saw an opportunity and took it. I wanted to own my own boutique. With the help of my husband, Canyon, I was able to do that.
I’m motivated to run my small business by turning my love of fashion into a career. I want everyone who shops at Brooke Black Boutique to feel their best and confident in what they wear. Fashion isn’t just about looking good but also dressing to make yourself happy.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It hasn’t always been a smooth road. It’s not as simple as just purchasing inventory and throwing a price on it to sell.
There are a lot of legalities involved. Personally, I’ve found the hardest part to be attracting new customers as a new small business when there’s a huge market of competition. I understand that sometimes it’s scary to purchase from new small businesses that have few reviews for fear of being scammed so we resort back to well-known companies such as Amazon. I’m slowly growing my customers over time.

Brooke Black Boutique is a small online women’s clothing boutique. I opened the boutique in November of 2022 after months of prepping. I work full-time for a college, Pickens Technical College. I’m a software specialist. I have a bachelor’s degree from the Clarion University of Pennsylvania in Computer Information Systems and a minor in Business Administration. Having a background in IT helped me to design and set up my website. I’ve always had a passion for shopping and clothes.
My girlfriends and I are always traveling and buying new outfits for our trips. So one day I thought to myself “instead of constantly shopping from other places, I want to chase my own dream and be the boutique that others are shopping at for their trips.” The clothes I carry in my boutique range from going out on the town to snuggling up on the couch. We carry sizes small to 3x in different items. We carry various items such as shoes, shirts, jeans, bridal accessories, activewear, and sweaters. While we are a small business we try to carry something for everyone.
If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
For as long as I can remember, I’ve always had an interest in clothes and fashion. I always wanted new items every season. But I also had an outdoorsy side. I loved riding four-wheelers, playing soccer and softball, or going fishing with my dad. As for my personality, I was a social butterfly back then and I still am now. I try to make friends with everyone when I meet them. I could talk all day.
I was a waitress through high school and college and I always enjoyed meeting all of the people passing through town. Everyone has a different story and I always enjoy hearing about how it got them to where they are now.
