Life & Work with Laurel Sabadosh

Today we’d like to introduce you to Laurel Sabadosh.

Hi Laurel, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
One of my strongest memories from growing up was constantly singing in a mirror pretending I was on stage, like so many artists that I looked up to did. I took all different types of music lessons, from guitar to piano to drums to vocals, I wanted to try it all. My music passion stuck with me for my entire life, helping me get away from reality through the melody. I only began writing music once I got to college and wanted to find a new way to express myself. I was searching for songs that weren’t being written and I felt I had a lot to say.

Friends began noticing my talent for writing and singing and begged me to go on stage, but my stage fright held me back. Once I graduated college, I moved to Nashville and got a regular job, itching to be doing what all of the singers all around me were. During quarantine, I quit my job and began posting music on a fake instagram to see how people would react. Since then, I have started posting on my own instagram, playing rounds all throughout Nashville, meeting people who love the same thing as me, and releasing music I once just put to paper because I needed to release my thoughts. I never knew I could be someone pursuing such a big dream, but every day I continue to impress myself and work towards something that has been in my life for as long as I can remember.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I believe no road that is worth pursuing is going to be smooth. There will always be challenges that help to make us stronger, which is exactly how my road has been with music. Once I began fully pursuing music, there were many struggles that arose. The biggest is the narrative I created in my own head. There are many people in Nashville trying to chase the artist’s dream and they are all amazing in their own way. Sometimes, I feel I am not equipped for this life and get defeated believing the person playing in my writer’s round is 10 steps ahead of me. Moments of feeling like this could really bump anyone’s road, but I continue to work on suppressing these thoughts and finding ways to make them push me to be better.

If it wasn’t for that person 10 steps ahead of me, I wouldn’t see what I need to work towards. If it wasn’t for the pressure of not knowing anyone in the music business, I wouldn’t have created new connections and found the confidence to reach out to others. If it wasn’t for my stage fright which still shows up sometimes, I wouldn’t practice as much to make sure I feel as ready. All our struggles can make us stronger and looking back I couldn’t be more grateful for them.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am not just another country singer-songwriting in Nashville chasing their dreams. I am a girl who has been through a lot in her life and isn’t afraid to share every piece of it. A girl who wanted to hear someone on the radio sing about the real stuff and when no one did, she wrote it herself. I plan to continue writing my story that I know so many people can relate to and release these songs for everyone to enjoy.

I have already released a few songs, one being “Play” which has received a lot of attraction on all streaming platforms.

In 2023, I plan to release songs that feel a little different from each other, one being true country, one pop country, an acoustic song, and everything in between. Love me or hate me, you will be seeing me around!

What do you think about happiness?
Nothing makes me happier than sitting in my room at night, with my dog by my side, writing a new song. This is how my singer-songwriter career began and I love taking moments away from the noise, the co-writes, the writers round, and just going back to just me and my guitar.
