Today we’d like to introduce you to Kristin James.
Hi Kristin, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
Hi! I’m Kristin James, but you can call me KJ. I was born and raised in the Nashville, TN area, and have since moved to sunny LA, CA. Acting has always been a passion of mine. I started on the stage as early as preschool and pursued that passion into college where I refined it and received a BA in Communication with a double emphasis in Theatre and Public Relations from Mississippi State University. After college, I found myself more and more drawn to voiceovers. After all, people told me my whole life, “you’ve got a cool voice, you should do something with that.”
So I did.
Several classes, coaching sessions, seminars, research, and conferences later, I now record and produce audiobooks full-time. Employing an engaging style with unique voices for each character, listeners often comment on how they really felt the story come to life through my narration. Nothing makes me happier than a happy client with happy listeners. What can I say? I just love stories and characters.
When I’m not in my booth, you can find me crocheting, playing video games, or running agility with my dogs.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Everything was honestly going pretty darn well, then I decided that March 2nd, 2020 was the perfect time to move to LA. Dear reader… it was not.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a voice actor, and most of my work is in audiobooks. All my characters have distinct voices and I love to draw a listener in with an engaging storytelling style.
I have a few works that have been my favorites. If we’re talking Thriller, pick anything by Ellery Kane (The First Cut was nominated for a Best Thriller SOVAS award); and if Fantasy is more your speed, try the Mishap’s Heroes series by KM Merritt, or She Who Rides the Storm by Caitlin Sangster.
What’s next?
Well, I did move out West in order to break into animation, so that, I guess.
