Today we’d like to introduce you to Shelby Lee Lowe.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I grew up in a small town south of Nashville, so I was surrounded by music for most of my life. I had a great uncle that taught me my first lessons on guitar when I was around 14, and he introduced me to country music. In my senior year in high school, I sang “Paint Me a Birmingham” at my high school talent show on a dare. The reaction from everyone in my school was overwhelming, and it gave me the confidence to sing more.
Someone from a local church heard about it and they asked me to sing for a function they had. They paid me $50 and that’s when I realized I could make money with my voice! I wound up going to MTSU and studying the music business. Once I graduated I wrote for a publishing company for three years. I have been playing shows with a band all across the country and it’s been rewarding and challenging through it all.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I have been very fortunate in my career to have a solid support group. My father who passed away in July was always my biggest supporter throughout my career.
Early on, he would help me book shows and drive me and my band to different places. I’ve broken down on the side of a highway in Wyoming, Arkansas, Tennessee, and Texas so far. I have hit bumps in the road throughout my career, but I’ve always powered through them.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I would like to think that my style of songwriting and performing is just different enough from everyone else to set me apart. I enjoy playing high-energy shows and I try to write songs that showcase my sense of humor. I try not to take myself too seriously.
What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
I do my best to show up every day and try to get better. I always try to make sure that I’m having a good time and that the people around me are too. I try to be a good person and work hard.

Love seeing Shelby Lee Lowe expand his music career in out of state venues now! Such an amazing young man trying to stay true to his country roots. Good family man too! My hope is to have him come to Louisiana, my state, soon.
