Conversations with Becky Denton

Today we’d like to introduce you to Becky Denton.

Hi Becky, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
I love to sing and perform. My parents said I sang before I spoke my first words. I took piano lessons when I was younger and had vocal lessons in high school. I was also active in band, theatre, and choir. I was a cheerleader in middle/high school and one year in college, so I got a lot of “performance training” in that way as well. I didn’t start seriously pursuing an artist career until I was in my 20s.

After college, I mostly taught myself to play guitar so I could accompany myself at gigs. I wrote my first song and made my first trip to Nashville in 2005. I put my first band together in 2006. For many years, I worked extensively in the field of Speech-Language Pathology, while also building a career in music. In 2019, I released my first full-length album. I have been making the trip back & forth to Nashville from northeast Missouri for several years. I’m currently working on an EP, and it should be out soon!

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Pursuing a career in music has brought plenty of challenges, as most people in the entertainment business probably feel.

A couple of my obstacles/challenges are 1. logistics — It’s about a 7-hour drive one-way from my home in northeast Missouri and 2. Staying connected with others in the industry — I know technology offers a lot of great things (ie, social media, email, FT, phone), but nothing replaces the connections you can make when you get to visit with someone in person.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
My mission is to make a real connection with people through my music.

I hope I can entertain people and make them feel something positive with the material I sing and write and in the way I perform. My passion is singing and performing live, whether it’s solo or with a full band. I really enjoy connecting with an audience and sharing music with others.

We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you.
It’s sometimes easy to get down when things don’t go as planned.

If I can keep bad luck from overtaking my outlook on things, good luck has always seemed to be on the horizon…just gotta keep going.
