Meet Nolan Barba

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nolan Barba.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I’ve always been pretty interested in music. People have seen me messing around with free music programs since around fifth grade, but I really started having fun with it when I was around fourteen. That’s when I started making beats for my friends to use and I got pretty good at seeing what moved people by watching what my friends’ reactions were. I think that’s when I started figuring out what I liked and didn’t like.

Eventually, there came a point where the beats I was making didn’t align with what my friends wanted to use so I started keeping them for myself to write to. I started really falling in love with songwriting near the end of my junior year of high school and started teaching myself guitar, learning Sublime and Red Hot Chili Peppers songs. I only released a couple of songs in 2022 but I’ve got a whole lot of work to show everyone this year.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There’s been nothing I couldn’t figure out. I like to think that my parents like my music so they were pretty understanding when I explained my plan.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I make music, put simply. I don’t put a label on the music I make, but people call it anti-pop. If I had to give you one reason why you should be listening to me it’s purely that my ceiling is higher. I know what I’m capable of and I can’t wait to show people.

Any big plans?
I’ve got a pretty cool project on the way. All my friends came together from different parts of the US to help put it together. Stay tuned if you’re interested, if not, I’m sure you’ll find out eventually.
