Meet Jana Orr of Jana the Doula

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jana Orr.

Hi Jana, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
I was an infant teacher prior to becoming a postpartum doula. I helped a parent with their child so they could catch up on sleep. There was a sense of accomplishment knowing I was helping others out. I loved being an infant teacher but I knew I had another purpose something bigger. I thought maybe I would become a sleep consultant when I happened to stumble upon a postpartum doula.

After some research, I knew this is what I was meant to do. I would get to have the best of both worlds of still working with infants and helping parents out. As soon as I finished my training and testing I soon spread the word. I had so much support from many families at the school I was at that I was able to launch my business on the side. 8 months after launching my business I left being an infant teacher. I am now a full-time business owner and love enlightening people about what a postpartum doula does. The joy I get helping parents get the sleep they deserve after birth is a wonderful feeling.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Starting your own business that is not well known in society was difficult and still is.

Getting the word out there about what a postpartum doula does to people can be so difficult. There is such a stigma that parents have to do it all themselves, which isn’t true at all. Marketing and getting clients for each month has been a struggle. I rely on giveaways and word of mouth.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Jana the Doula?
In my business, I offer doula and postpartum doula. I have focused more on postpartum doula lately since being sleep deprived is one of the hardest things as parents. I work with families during the night time and take over for the parents so they can get the sleep they need. During the night I will feed the baby a bottle, put them back to sleep, and change their diapers.

If they are breastfed I can bring the baby to them and get them once they are done. My goal is for the parents to get a restful night of sleep as possible. My doula philosophy is to give everyone nonjudgmental help. Everyone deserves to have support. My goal is to leave the family with this is all worth it and I can do anything mottos. I want parents to know they aren’t alone and it’s okay to ask for help especially when it comes to getting some sleep.

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
What I love best about our city is the people, Everyone is so friendly and welcoming. It’s nice to see a good diversity of people as well.
