Community Highlights: Meet Toneal Jackson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Toneal Jackson.

Hi Toneal, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I am a woman who unapologetically wears many hats. Personally, I am a married, mother of many. Professionally, I am a national and international award-winning author and filmmaker.

I am also a speaker, coach, and activist. I am the Chairwoman of the Cook County Green Party; founder of Educated and Empowered, LLC. My entire journey has been divinely inspired – from the first book I wrote to starting my businesses – everything I did was a result of my walking by faith.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has definitely NOT been a smooth road, lol. Some of the main challenges were financial yes because you never know exactly how much money you will need for all your endeavors.

However, obstacles that were more of a struggle were just trying to figure out how to navigate the literary world or how to be effective as an entrepreneur. Although I have a master’s degree in business, that didn’t necessarily equip me for the road ahead. The fact that I’m the first author and entrepreneur in my family meant that I had to figure things out on my own – most were by trial and error.

My struggles were ultimately what led me to start my organization, Artists Promoting Success. It was my way of helping others avoid the same mistakes and enduring the same struggles I did.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Educated and Empowered is purposed to do just that for its consumers. The company is comprised of multiple divisions (books, coaching, entertainment, masterclasses, meetups, merchandise, organizations, and events); and some divisions, such as coaching, entertainment, and organizations are broken into subdivisions.

Our overall mission is to equip people with the information and inspiration to be their best selves. We have four primary focal points – entrepreneurship; mental health; social justice; and women’s rights. Each focal point drives how we run our divisions. So that if you want to know more about a particular topic, you can either attend the respective meetup or event, register for those masterclasses or join the corresponding organization. For more on Entrepreneurship, you’d join Artists Promoting Success. If you are interested in Mental Health issues, you’d join Dealing with the Aftermath. For Social Justice you’d join, Political Power of the Arts; for Women’s Rights, it would be I’m Glad to be a Woman. However, if you want to be involved in a little bit of everything, then the parent company (Educated and Empowered) would be a perfect fit.

As the CEO, I love helping people – I mean since the beginning that’s been what I specialized in, and now to have a conglomerate that embodies all that I’ve been able to do is very satisfying.

Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I don’t believe in luck, however, I would definitively say that the favor of God has rested upon me both personally and professionally.

I’ve had some setbacks along the way – physically and financially – but I’m still standing. With every hardship came a lesson and I think that in many cases, it’s the hardships that help shape your character. Being a person of faith, I credit God with granting wisdom and guidance along my journey.
