Today we’d like to introduce you to Cary Camacho.
Hi Cary, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
I have been working in Human Resources since the summer of junior year in high school. I won’t say that years do not age me. Since the moment I started I fell in love with everything about it and even obtained my bachelor’s degree with a minor in Human Resources and a major in Business Administration. This allowed me to be the first-gen graduate in my family which was a huge accomplishment and made my parents super proud. Especially having come here to have a better life in the Dominican Republic.
However, when I turned 40, and the pandemic occurred I started to think if my passion was still there. During this time also began to think about what would be legacy I would be leaving behind for my daughter. When I shared this with my family we quickly came to the conclusion that one common thing we all have is traveling. While we had not had a chance to travel much ourselves due to my work, my daughter being in all-star cheerleading and unfortunately just not making it a priority for us. We knew that if I was going to take on a business venture then travel would be ideal. So my daughter came up with our business name, my husband who is an IT professional set up the systems, and I started educating myself on what it really took to have a travel agency. Surrounded me with like-minded entrepreneurs, found a branding that compliments me, and found mentors who pushed me to do things even when scared.
I quickly learned there are many commonalities. In HR I am an advocate for employees and a liaison with their leader or other internal clients. I have to ensure the process is followed, I am kept updated on laws, turnover is low and engagement is high. Similar to owning a travel business where I am the advocate for my clients, have to complete training to be on top of the latest trends and regulation changes, and build relationships with suppliers.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Hit some bumps along the way by first thinking my niche would be family travel however, quickly found that was not going to be it. Then out of nowhere destination weddings and group travel came to me and realized that was it my business niche and focused on being the best I could be.
I also didn’t realize how much business was going to depend on social media marketing which is a huge challenge for someone who is situationally extroverted. And the biggest obstacle has been realizing who is truly there to support you.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Travel with the Trio?
Everyone wants a perfect trip, but not everyone knows how to plan one.
While we cater to destination wedding couples, we are able to assist with any type of travel: romance, group celebrations (birthday, bachelorette, bachelor, graduation, retirement, divorce, quince) excursions, family vacation or reunion, weekend getaway, or no-reasons-needed travel! We like to craft customized journeys that take the pressure off planning, immerse you in new cultures, and allow you to experience the world in a new way.
We describe our brand as luxe, inviting, experiential, and warm.
What sets us apart is our business hours are tailored to service the working professional, we are fully bilingual, and we believe everyone should experience international travel.
We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up.
So many fond memories, such as going to the Dominican Republic and being around family during summer vacations. I thought it was the coolest thing to be taken to where my parents grew up, see my grandparents get on the motorcycles, and spend the day at the beach.
