Today we’d like to introduce you to Anthony Hope.
Hi Anthony, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’ve been surrounded by DJ equipment and music my whole life because of my father. I would help my dad all the time carrying equipment and records and he would always try to teach me a lot when I was younger but didn’t show much interest. When I was around 18-21 I would go out partying a lot of courses and I and my friends hated a lot of Djs it got to the point where they would constantly ask me when are you going to learn. So eventually I learned how to hook up the equipment and learned how to mix!
I spent a whole year in the basement practicing and mixing trying to get better every day till one day my friend Monty introduced me to these two guys who wanted to start throwing really big college parties and became the main Dj for “College Beats”. Over the next few years with college beats, I’m Djing 4/5 nights a week doing college parties club events and radio shows like Freestyle Fridays with 101.1 the wiz! Then I also started to do weddings and high school events like prom and homecoming! When Covid hit it definitely affected me and all the Djs around the world we had to adapt to being online 100%.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has definitely not been a smooth road there are a lot of issues in the DJ world that people don’t pay attention to or look over. You struggle with a lot of different things in life such as having a significant relationship with someone, healthy eating habits and not drinking too much alcohol can definitely take a toll on you.
Being depressed and mentally broken because of what people say about you or you not think you’re getting what you deserve! You have to be a very likable person and deal with a variety of personalities at the same time in the same room. It’s definitely a tuff grind a lot of people just see the hype and glory about Djing not the real deal issues with the job!
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I feel like I specialize in just having fun and being different. I’m known for being wild and having a mosh pit type of energy but I can proudly say that I am proficient in a lot of different genres and that’s what’s going to always set me apart from everyone.
I’m not scared to take chances or go for something that I want and most importantly we have to have fun everyone books a DJ to have fun and I am really good at that!
Any big plans?
My plans are to get back busy how I use to be before Covid but booked in other city-states even countries. I know I can go all around the world and play for any ethnic group of people.
I am from California originally and have a lot of family and connections on the west coast and get asked all the time if I’m ever coming back so I’m definitely working on being able to do that and still live comfortably.
