Community Highlights: Meet Black Mountain Cabinetry

Today we’d like to introduce you to Black Mountain Cabinetry.

Hello Black Mountain Cabinetry, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
We started Black Mountain Cabinetry after years of managing multiple remodels for both personal and investment properties in the Denver Metro area of Colorado. While we loved seeing the beautiful and functional finished space, the hassle of managing these projects was a combination of frustration and concern about the punctuality, communication, and cost of the services needed.

Both Casey and KB had been considering moving to Nashville for a few years and eventually in 2021 and 2022, they took the leap! Once in Tennessee, both quickly made connections in the local real estate and investment crowd and identified the need for quality, reliable cabinetry with quick lead times that serves investors and builders while still serving homeowners as well.

Through their experience working on their own rehabs and flips; including completing several kitchen and bathroom renovations, as well as experience with a local Denver area custom cabinetry manufacturer, they decided to start their own cabinetry business. After significant market research, they identified quality local (or almost local) manufacturers that offered entry-level up to fully custom cabinetry that would meet the needs of investors, homeowners, and builders alike.

Casey and KB hit the ground running, bidding on several projects before the completion of their showroom, and making great connections with local investors, builders, and others in the industry.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I think if anybody starting a business said it was a smooth road, they’d be lying. We initially were wanting to work with a cabinetry manufacturer we were familiar with in Colorado, however, due to supply chain issues, they were no longer distributing east of the Mississippi.

This prompted our market research to identify quality manufacturers which would be available to the Nashville market. Koch Cabinetry was identified as a great option for the entry-level and semi-custom lines, as they’re manufactured in east Tennessee and provide quick lead times, which if you’re in the industry – is a very important factor. Crystal Cabinetry was identified as a great option for higher-end semi-custom and fully custom projects. Crystal has a great reputation locally, and they are manufactured in Minnesota.

Another hurdle for a new business is regulatory compliance. Which came first, the chicken or the egg? Well… we encountered a lot of that. In order to become a dealer, you need a showroom, and you also need a Sales and Use tax license. In order to get that license, you need a location (showroom)… but before we can get the lease for the showroom, you need a business license… and that kind of was the story with a lot of the initial processes.

Another big challenge is making connections in an area where new. There are other options out there, but we’re determined to build our reputation as a quality, reliable cabinet dealer.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Black Mountain Cabinetry offers entry-level, semi-custom, and custom cabinetry with a variety of material and finish selections. Our cabinetry is manufactured in the USA. After years of working on our own rehabs and flips, communication and responsiveness became essential traits we looked for in those we would work with. Because of that, we are making it our priority to:

Be responsive and communicate at every step of the project.

Provide transparent pricing and only the highest quality product.

Keep lead times and project completion dates on track with estimates.

We offer whatever level of assistance is needed on behalf of our customers. From basic design suggestions, site measurements, connecting with skilled installers and designers, or simply placing an order for our experienced investors who already know what their project requires.

Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
Building trust, a reputation of reliability, and consistent communication with every person we work with are essential to genuine customer service. Unfortunately, we feel this has been lost over the last decade, and we intend to bring it back.
