Today we’d like to introduce you to Chad Land.
Hi Chad, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
My name is Chad Land and I am a Singer-Songwriter from Templeton, California. In my hometown, my mother was a country singer by the name of Michelle Marie. She began giving me vocal lessons at an early age, primarily in traditional country music. As a teenager living in a small trailer down by the railroad tracks, the Salinas River would become my backyard for many years where I began writing songs on an old hand-me-down acoustic guitar.
In the early 2000’s I began playing shows and recording with two groups, 00-Metro, and Rain for Rent. I later became the frontman for the Hard Rock band “The Axia” from 2004-2014. After becoming a father to a beautiful baby boy and the desire to stay closer to home, I began playing the Winery Circuit along the Central Coast of California. This consisted of playing mostly cover songs but all the while I was still writing original material, in the hopes to cut a solo album one day.
Nashville has always been the place I have wished to record after hearing stories from my musical mother and her adventures out here in the 80s. During the pandemic and after having over 100 shows canceled in 2020 I moved to Amarillo, Texas. While there I remodeled an old home, played some acoustic gigs and all the while just kept writing. Texas was the first place I could play country music for hours and actually felt musically at home for the first time in years.
Shortly after my wife and I eloped in Nashville and in 2022 purchased a home in southern Davidson County. I’m now trying to pick a producer and recording studio to cut a full-length album with while meantime doing all my preproduction at home.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Well, during my early years, it was always a financial struggle. It can still be. There were times I lived out of my van, but would always maintain a warehouse or somewhere to play and rehearse.
I lived in over 40 homes, remodeling them for other people, and that’s why my first album will be called Random Houses. Probably the biggest challenge is ignoring the negative things people say when never giving up on your dreams. Especially in a small town.
Ya know, I’m on this path that I feel I’m supposed to walk down.
We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you.
Well, somehow I made it to Nashville. It’s like a fresh start and without all the bad things that have happened to me, I wouldn’t be here today. So something has got to go right after so many things have gone wrong.
