Meet Taylor Hogan

Today we’d like to introduce you to Taylor Hogan. She and her team shared their story with us below:

“This kind of feels like a bit of old school Loretta Lynn style, some Johnny Cash storytelling, with a youthful infusion and an AC/DC type kick in the!” That’s how one music industry veteran referred to the musical stylings of singer/songwriter Taylor Hogan. Sure, that’s a high bar to be reaching for – but once you get to know this determined young artist, you’ll also realize she wouldn’t have it any other way. Newsday commented on her debut EP “Wonderland”, saying “It features plenty of catchy country songs, awash in acoustic guitar and clever lines”. Her upcoming single “Shot of Whiskey,” featuring Ryan Kinder (co-written with Ryan Kinder and Luke Sheets), sets the stage for two EPs set for release in 2023.

Having moved to Nashville at age 19 to hone her musical artistry and further her music education, Taylor hails from Long Island, New York. She recently graduated from Lipscomb University and during that time, she caught the attention of a team of accomplished production and songwriting creatives whose credits include: American Idol, Bonnie Raitt, Brett Eldredge, Celine Dion, Christina Aguilera, Cole Swindell, David Bowie, Luke Bryan, Martina McBride, Pat Benatar, Paul Stanley (KISS), P!nk, Rush, Timbaland Productions, The Voice, and Yo-Yo Ma. Along the way, she also lent her lyrical talents and unique vocal stylings to the song “Break My Heart” by Stockholm-based EDM DJ/Producer B3nte, which garnered nearly 3 million Spotify streams.

Taylor has a unique story to tell a country artist from New York. Her new music was recently described as equal parts catchy melodies, and distinct vocal delivery, with elements of urban-pop and country rock hooks, all encompassed in traditional Nashville relatable storytelling. From headlining sold-out shows on Long Island – to opening for and sharing the stage with established artists & songwriters such as Alyssa Bonagura, Jenn Schott, Luke Sheets, Ryan Kinder, the Song Suffragettes, and more – Taylor hopes to be ampin’ up audiences nationwide soon!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I think the biggest challenge as far as my music career goes would be trying to make it as a young female country artist. Different aspects of the music industry and opportunities aren’t always leveled between men and women. But that just means I have to work that much harder… and I’m up for that challenge!

At the same time, the industry also often tries to put you in a box of other young female artists who share the same dreams/goals you do. So it’s important to me to stay true to myself and who I want to be as an artist, regardless of any outside pressures.

We’d love to hear what you think about risk-taking.
I think one risk I’ve taken in my career so far is not always taking the conventional path as it relates to my music, even if it might be considered “the wiser choice” to fit neatly into a specific genre. Thanks to the help of mentors I’ve gotten the opportunity to work with and learn from, I have really discovered who I want to be as an artist, what I want to say, and how I want to deliver that musically, wherever that may take me. Ideally, I don’t want to be compared to anyone else.

When people listen to my music across the board, I’d love for them to think “Wow, she really took me somewhere with those songs” and not care about if the music fits into any one specific box. And if they think “That’s a bit different than everything else I typically hear on the radio”, I’m okay with that! I want to create my own path, with whatever twists & turns that might involve, as that’s the kind of journey I want to go on… even if it’s the harder path!
