Check Out Ashton Blake’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashton Blake. They and their team shared their story with us below:

Recording project in 2018 by a group of enthusiastic musicians in Louisville, Kentucky. Lead singer Ashton Blake and his bandmates caught the ear of Maryland-based HighVolMusic’s founder Bill Chavis, who not only helped launch their first album, he also came up with the name “Native Sons,” inspired by his own Native American roots.

Due to circumstances beyond anyone’s control, the band’s recordings were delayed, but Blake was determined to have them hit the airwaves. At the end of 2019 NATIVE SONS’ first album, The Natives Are Restless, was finally ready to be released, but the world was about to be hit with Covid-19, causing the release to be put on hold once again. The band experienced a personal blow as Bill Chavis and his wife, Lori, succumbed to Covid-19 in September 2021. Time passed, leaving Blake to carry on the music as the other members left to pursue other projects. The album was finally released in March 2021 to glowing reviews among the press worldwide.

The line-up of NATIVE SONS has since changed into a working and touring band, playing well-known venues such as the infamous Whisky A Go Go in Los Angeles and large festivals including Monsters of Rock Cruise’s Monsters on the Mountain two years in a row, Nashville’s RocknPod Expo, and Brad Lee’s Masquerade Madness. They have also shared the stage with former Dokken guitarist George Lynch, Kickin Valentina, and Resist and Bite. NATIVE SONS has been celebrated among 200 other artists in Spotify’s New Classic Rock in North America Playlist in 2021 and 2022.

Native Sons are:
Ashton Blake—vocals
Sebastian “Baz” LaBar—lead guitar
Truman Fleming—bass guitar
Grady Steel—drums

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Native Sons have lost a label to covid-19, friends and family were lost to us while on the road, Lineups changed numerous times, and we’ve lost tour vehicles once due to a deer and another due to road damage, Native Sons seems to keep moving no matter what is thrown our way.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Native Sons is a rock ‘n roll band, we are known for our music and high-energy performances across several hundred stages.

We are most proud of how far we have come in such a short time. Our songwriting & message while performing is much different than other bands and it seems to appeal to the mainstream as well.

Risk-taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
Trying to make music a career is a huge risk in itself. Every time you hit the road on tour you run the risk of losing everything.

We are 100% fan-funded so everything we do is a gamble. We often throw our own shows, as what you would know a true promoter to be is few and far between what they really are today.
