Meet Angela McGhee

Today, we’d like to introduce you to Angela McGhee. Angela was introduced to us by the brilliant and talented Cassandra Hill.

Hi Angela, we’re so thrilled to have you sharing your story with us today. Maybe we can kick things off by having you introduce yourself to our readers? We’d love to have you go into your story and how you got to where you are today.
I am a cosmetic Chemist who owns Definitive Formulations, LLC where I help beauty entrepreneurs by developing, manufacturing, and packaging custom hair and skin care products for their own brands.

I began my journey as a young girl interested in cosmetics and hair care products. By junior high, my interest in science started to increase so that by high school I knew I wanted to study chemistry so I could create products. I completed my bachelor’s in Chemistry at Florida A&M University and worked as a process engineer for a large consumer goods manufacturing company. Over the 24 years employed, I learned about quality, manufacturing, training, and even HR. In 2004, I created Definitive Formulations as a side business. I spent the next 8 years learning my ingredients and practicing product development. In 2012, I began creating my first products for a client’s brand after meeting a stylist who expressed frustration with not being able to find the products needed, or finding a manufacturer who would work with a startup brand. Since then, I’ve helped over 30 brands create and launch products.

We’ve heard great things about your organization. For our readers who might not be as familiar, can you please tell them about the organization?
I collaborate with beauty entrepreneurs to develop, brand, manufacture, and package custom hair and skin care products. I believe in truly listening to the client and helping fully support their vision. Also, they are able to get more customization at lower quantities than they can get elsewhere. Knowing that my business can impact the lives of so many other businesses is what inspires me and motivates to keep growing. When I got feedback that having the product line was the only way they stayed in business had during the many salon shutdowns was the moment I am most proud of as a brand owner.

So, as we mentioned to our audience earlier, you were introduced to us by Cassandra Hill and Holistic Living Consulting and we really admire them and what they’ve built. For folks who might not be as familiar, can you tell them a bit about your experience with Holistic Living Consulting.
I met Cassandra on a plane en route to NYC for the inaugural cohort of Goldman Sach’s One Million Black Women in Business Program. Her warm personality struck me right away. We talked throughout the flight and even on the return trip. As an entrepreneur herself, she understood how taxing it can be. Many people only see the CEO persona and forget that as women, we are wives, moms, church members, part of the community and more. While we love all our roles, they take a toll – that’s where Holistic Living comes in. Cassandra assesses the health, mental and emotional components of her client. I loved that she listened to me, asked great questions, then prepared a comprehensive plan for me to get my wellness back of track. Based on her recommendations, I have more energy, more calmness, and managed to lose weight in the process. She is also phenomenal with follow-up to see if there are additional needs.
