Daily Inspiration: Meet Amanda Nicholson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Amanda Nicholson.

Hi Amanda, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My first career was in education. I was a K-2 special educator here in Metro Nashville for 3 years. While on maternity leave from that job, I was getting overwhelmed with the anxiety of how much childcare costs, figuring out how we were going to afford it, and coming to terms with the fact that I would be working for free to come home and give my daughter my emotional leftovers, even though I enjoyed my job.

A friend had mentioned that she heard of someone who writes social posts for a big company and works from home. “I think you’d be good at something like that!” she said. I began Googling things like, “how to make money on maternity leave” and started getting ads for a copywriting course. I began researching and learning all I could about how to become a copywriter, built a portfolio, and began reaching out to other copywriters.

Fast forward to today, and I am a website copywriter and email marketer for mission-driven entrepreneurs and non-profit organizations- nixing childcare costs and creating my work schedule around our family schedule.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Let’s face it – nothing worthwhile in life is a smooth road. What’s that they say… growth isn’t linear? It’s true! I have come such a long way from learning everything about copywriting and email marketing from scratch.

Considering I am a one-woman show, the biggest challenge has been wearing all of the hats and juggling all the moving parts of trying to grow my business. One person cannot do everything at once, and I often do not allow myself to accept that.

However, in less than two years, I have developed processes, built a community, and formed priceless relationships with clients and fellow creatives in Nashville… while staying home with my daughter full-time. I call that success while striving for more!

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a copywriter for mission-driven entrepreneurs and non-profits, specializing in website copy and email marketing. I’m obsessed with writing About pages and email sequences make me dance! This work allows me to be creative while capturing someone’s brand voice and speaking directly to their target audience and, ultimately, reaching their goals.

I choose to work with people who are actively making an impact in their communities- whether that is through donations, volunteer work, or improving the health and lives of others through their products or services. Having the ability to form and share someone’s story so that they make a bigger impact is incredibly rewarding.

Watching my clients reach goals through our work together is the biggest accomplishment in my work. When I collaborate with others, I give them my full attention, listen to what they want and need, and conduct the background research necessary for me to fully understand their audience. This helps me produce on-brand copy that resonates with their audience and converts them into loyal customers, donors, or volunteers.

Becoming a writer has been a life-long dream, and I am proud that I have found a way to make that a possibility while making the world a little bit better.

Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
I used to daydream about living a solo, nomadic lifestyle (#vanlife). Although, considering I am married to a pilot and have created a career I can do from anywhere, that dream may become a reality, haha!
