Today, we’d like to introduce you to Laura Sirak . Laura was introduced to us by the brilliant and talented Laura Sirak.
Hi Laura , we’re so thrilled to have you sharing your story with us today. Maybe we can kick things off by having you introduce yourself to our readers? We’d love to have you go into your story and how you got to where you are today.
Hi y’all! My name is Laura Sirak, born and raised in Florida! I grew up riding horses, eventually convincing my parents I wasn’t going to grow out of “the horse stage” and getting my own American Quarter horse at age 15. His name was Dusty and he recently passed at age 28. We have been side by side for almost 19 years. It was a heart breaking loss, but very thankful for all the memories together!
In high school I was introduced to dairy goats and how amazing their milk was for sensitive stomachs. Early teens I was diagnosed with Crohn’s disease and being a big milk drinker I knew raising goats was something I wanted to do and have when the time was right. I knew I wanted Nubians, because I love their big, floppy ears!
In December 2017, “Bonnie” and “Belle” my first purebred Nubian doelings (female baby goats or “kids”) came home just under 2 weeks of age on the bottle! Our first child, my daughter, Emma, arrived the following May and shortly after we brought home an adult Nubian doe who was already bred and the goat adventure really begin! Her first kidding (goat labor) happened early that December. I jumped right in with milking and then, came soap, lotion, and some, very little, cheese making!
We now have 2 children and have moved to a larger piece of property closer to my husbands job and are rebuilding our farm while DIY/self constructing building our home… all while living in a camper that’s parked in the barn we built! In addition to our dairy goats, we also, have another horse, 3 dogs, 2 barn cats, chickens for eggs and we raise and butcher meat chickens!
Life’s an adventure and we are a very blessed family!
Please tell us more about your brand, Dusty Acres Farm
I make goats milk soaps! All milk is hand milked from our goats daily.
Laura Sirak has been a great friend to us and I know you’ve got a great relationship as well. Maybe you can tell our audience a bit about Laura and your experience with them.
I think you mean with Hailey?
I’m going to assume so and begin with we are each other’s biggest fans! We are open and honest with each other. Hailey’s ideas are always flowing and she is so in tune with the current trends, which is helpful, because I’m not.. haha! I laugh to myself about our friendship at times and how well it works, because I’m several years older and Hailey is so full of life, always put together with cute outfits and perfect makeup! I, on the other hand, don’t even know where I would start with a makeup brush, but we just work! We can talk for hours about everything really! She’s such a huge supporter and encourager! Blessed are those who have a Hailey as a friend!
