Today we’d like to introduce you to Darren Lewis.
Hi Darren, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
It has been a year and a half since I started this content creation journey. I started this journey immediately after I quit football in my first year of college. I loved sports so heavily that I did not want to walk away from them altogether. God gave me the vision of being a content creator; all I had to do was pursue that vision. I worked alongside Tusculum University’s men’s basketball team throughout my first year’s second half.
Then after my first year of college, I transferred to THE Tennessee State University in Nashville, Tennessee. At TSU, I became a part of their media team and helped in every way I knew possible. I also got into the high school football scene in Nashville, and I am super excited about this upcoming season. The past year, I have been here, Nashville has given me the platform to display my talents. I can happily say that God has me right where he wants me!
Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has been a pretty smooth and constantly increasing journey. I am so grateful that God has granted me all the blessings to be here today.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I will always be a sports content creative first. I am versatile enough to do any job or task that is asked of me with the camera. I specialize in creating captivating photos and videos for players, teams, or even coaches. My goal in creating those photos and videos is to capture the moments that can only happen once. I want to say I am known for my photos primarily, but I am emerging to be a great videographer as well. I am also known as a creative that builds relationships with each person I come across.
Whether you are a player, parent, coach, referee, or any other client, I aim to build relationships and be relatable. I am proud of how God has moved in my life to allow me to be at this level of content creation. I am proud to say that He has carried me this far. I believe that my why separates me from others. I became a content creator not only to stay around the games that I loved but to give back to the games.
I want to capture moments for players, coaches, and parents that hold immense value. My why and how relatable I am to whoever I am working alongside.
Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting?
CREATE, CREATE, CREATE!! There is no blueprint for being a great content creator.
There is no right or wrong thing to do; all you have to do is start somewhere. Then after that, it is the trial in error.
Through trial in error, you will figure out what YOU like to do and what YOU don’t like to do, which is a great foundation when starting content creation.
