Conversations with Christopher “CLB” Lilly

Today we’d like to introduce you to Christopher “CLB” Lilly.

Christopher “CLB” Lilly

Hi Christopher, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I am an American R&B music artist, born and raised in Murfreesboro, TN. I began my music career in my childhood church, New Hope Baptist Church, where I would sing in front of many family and friends. Growing up, I was coached by my father who also was a music artist. We would sing in church together, as well as on family vacations and events. Alongside singing, I played many sports growing up which put my musical career in the back seat.

I was first introduced to studio recording in high school when my best friend Dee Mathers encouraged me to record after hearing my uncovered talent. Together, we created a few songs that never made it to the public but still, he encouraged me to keep going. As my football career began to flourish at Blackman High School, I chose to again put my musical career on hold. Eventually, I received a scholarship to play football at Berry College in Rome, Ga where I befriended Erick Rojas who convinced me to revive my music career.

Once I had graduated from Berry College, I began to work in Atlanta, Ga for a rental car company where I met my now music/business partner Jamaar “Big Maars” Embry. We share a lot as he also grew up in Tennessee and has a love for music. While in Atlanta, I have found myself within the music industry and continue to grow my following through showcases and tour admissions.

Not only am I blessed to publicly share my talent but I have also been able to connect with many great artists and producers through Top Shotta Music Entertainment; an exclusive label founded by Big Maars.

Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
With many starts and stops throughout my music career it has been difficult to pave my way. I’ve had sports and academics that have superseded the talent that I love to perform.

Being an Artist, naturally, I have experienced harsh criticism and discouraging fanship that made me question if I was good enough to one day be as big as my musical idols. Through perseverance and faith, I have weathered the storm and continue to showcase my God-given talent.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am an American R&B music artist. I’m most proud of the fans and support system that I have found along the way in this musical journey. Staying strong about who I am and what my music stands for has set me apart from what most people see in artists today.

I continue to work hard in my community and support the advancement of the African-American community through music which I consider to be a universal language.

What would you say has been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
I have learned that even though people will tell you that you’re not good enough or that you’re not someone big, that does not define you!

Your worth is not measured by others’ perspective of your success. You must be the master of your fate too and become who you want to be.
