Today we’d like to introduce you to Lauren Presley.
Hi Lauren, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers.
I’ve been singing my whole life but when I was 12, I uploaded some singing videos on YouTube and got discovered by a TV show. I ended up being cast for the show which was on the LifeTime channel and traveled with my mom from Texas where I grew up to Nashville to film for the show.
Once filming was completed, we settled in Nashville and never went back to Texas. The show got cancelled after 1 season but I continued to pursue a music career independently. When I was 17, I started releasing pop music on platforms like Spotify, Apple Music, etc. That’s kind of when I started taking music very seriously. Since then, I’ve just continued to work hard to build & grow my career!
Spotify has added me to some of their playlists like Fresh Finds Pop, New Pop Picks, and Night Pop – which being independent, I was stoked about that! I’ve also had some blog placements with some of the biggest music blogs out there like Wonderland, Notion, and Earmilk. It’s been years of late nights & sacrifices to be where I am but I feel super blessed to just be able to have this opportunity & have a support group who are on this journey with me.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been a smooth road so far. Moving states at such a young age and starting over somewhere new to pursue a career that is very uncertain is scary. Also, I feel like people don’t talk about how long it takes sometimes for an artist to blow up or to have that 1 song that makes their career. Some artists are doing this for 10-plus years before they blow up.
So, doing something for so long and still not being where you want to be at in your career, can be discouraging and you can start to lose motivation. Being an independent artist is financially a lot to take on as well. Most people don’t think about how much it cost to produce songs, make music videos, promote your music, etc.
So, with that in mind, I think to make it in the music industry, you have to have thick skin and you have to REALLY want it. I believe that hard work and dedication are what will get you to where you want to be. What has kept me going on this journey is simply how much I genuinely love making music.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a pop artist and songwriter.
I would say I’m a mix of Halsey and Fletcher, maybe a little Jessie Murph in there too. I think I’m most known for honest & vulnerable lyrics and a distinctive tone of voice. I’m most proud of myself for continuously pushing myself and refusing to give up.
We all have different ways of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
Success I think can mean different things to different people.
I would say it’s being able to be a full-time artist, being able to travel the world and connect with people through my music. So, if I can get my music heard everywhere in the world & hopefully help people through music, that’s success to me.
