Satavio “Jamar” Carter

Satavio, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I was born in Richmond, Virginia, but grew up in Huntsville, Alabama.

My story is a little complex, but let’s focus on the life-changing moment. At 12 years old, I found myself moving into a group home. With an estranged relationship with my family. During these turbulent years, I had numerous mentors, teachers, and guides who shaped me into the man I am today.

Living in different cultures and families throughout my time in foster care provided valuable lessons about life and adapting to the various obstacles that can come your way. I like to think these experiences have made me a more well-rounded individual.

During my freshman year of college, I discovered a passion for visual creation and photography working as a front desk aide in the video & media department. I had no idea at the time, but this was the beginning of a long and forever learning career.

It’s not just about taking pictures; it’s about telling stories through visuals, highlighting the beauty and complexity of life. It’s capturing the raw emotions of people. Photography has become a powerful medium for me to connect with others and share an experience.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I have had a blessed and amazing journey so far, but there have been times when things weren’t always favorable.

Whether it’s friendship, business, or family, there were many times the waters were “turbulent”.

I believe the hardest struggle I ever faced was my own belief in myself. There weren’t a lot of people in my space, as a young man that desired success. So not having a consistent role model was tough, but I was blessed enough to stumble into the right spaces and network with the right people.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
