Today we’d like to introduce you to Kitty Coen.
Thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I grew up in Texas and started playing live music in Austin Texas in 2018. I was lucky enough to meet artists that showed me the importance of paving your way so in 2021, I decided to move to Nashville to pursue my art full-time.
After moving to Nashville, I was able to focus on cultivating my sound and the world that I wanted my music to exist in. I also found a great band consisting of George Collins (guitar), Caleb Smith (bass), and Justin McKinney (drums).
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I would say the road has been very rocky. I think a lot of the struggles I faced came at the beginning of my career when I was mainly concerned with people liking my music instead of making the music that I felt was 100% true to me.
I do believe that as soon as you stop giving a shit about what people think about your art that’s right when they start to care. Staying true to yourself is the most important thing. As long as you do that, no matter how rocky the road gets, you will always find a way.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I would say my art and music live in a somewhat psychedelic Western desert realm. I combine a lot of rock/shoegazy guitar tones with bluegrass and Americana sounds.
People have called it indie twang, grunge country, western witch rock, southern gothic, the list goes on. But I truly believe my music is something you have to listen to to understand. It’s a little bit difficult to describe.
We all have different ways of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
Happiness.
