Today we’d like to introduce you to Breion “2’Live Bre” Dixon.
Hi Breion, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
It all started when from was a kid journaling. I had no idea that my thoughts, a piece of paper, and a pencil would take me this far. I originally was writing stories because I wanted to be a movie director, then one day, my friend Kyle Harrison read my journal out loud to me a said I had the skill to become one of the best rappers alive. I wanted to be like a neighborhood hero at that time of my life, his name was Wesley Crutcher. He was my Boys and Girls Club teacher but ended up being one of my mentors early on in my career.
He was making movies and unknowingly teaching me by example how to live out a dream while being in a program. I took this method and used it with doing hip-hop. Me and my friend Jamal McKinney and I formed a rap group at the age of 13 years named “Young Squad”. Many local natives remember that because we were the birth of young Nashville hip-hop artists with other names that path the way such as Kid Krunk, Lil Trip, and Cloud 9. Young Squad went viral before viral was a thing, for performing at John F. Kennedy Middle School at a pep rally!
That’s when the fun became a career for me. Young Squad took over the middle school scene performing at events from local promoters D Heard and Chill Will. As time went by Young Squad decided to explore different roads and I became a solo artist named Lil Bre in high school. Lil Bre was the artist that was getting booked for all the teen nights, sweet 16s, and proms in the entire Middle TN.
I couldn’t walk the hallways in schools or malls without taking a picture. It was pretty fun but also, I had to live up to the pressure of being a star at a young age while being in High school. My senior year of high school was a big year for me as an artist, I got to opportunity to perform at Municipal Auditorium twice as a headliner for Mindless Behavior and Yo Gotti, and then Jacques. Me, DJ Malik, & DJ official became business partners making 3,000 a week from throwing the biggest parties in the city and giving other young artists and DJs our blueprint artists. 615 Exclusive, Kali Kampaign, Young Polo, DJ Caine, DJ Spiffy Boy Danny, and many more can credit that.
At 18, I wanted to expand my reach so I signed a production deal with Street Symphony with Track or Die Records. This was the season of me taking over the college campus of TSU. I was known for throwing “Lit God Sets” and going viral for throwing a party at Waffle House. I was innovating the culture of Nashville by having a fun time inspired by the passing of my friend DJ Malik. In 2019, I got a phone call from P Diddy and DJ Khaled to come audition for The Four, this exposed my eyes to Hollywood and changed my mindset about approaching the music industry. As much as they wanted me on the show, I ended up never being on the show.
A month or two later, I got a phone call from Jesse Collin’s team to be on a rap show that is now known as ” Rhythm and Flow”! This is where I shined but learned so much. The same day, I hosted TSU’s biggest Homecoming Concert with Young Thug, NBA Young Boy, and Young Dolph the same night I drove to Atlanta for that opportunity, not knowing this was the opportunity that would change my life. Many artists would have lived on the hype of the night and partied, I got myself in that car and followed my dreams.
Speeding it up to today, I am a Founder of a Music Tech Company Called the Plek App, a Director for the TV show Shine at BTV, a Founder of Butterfly Nation, a Shoe Designer with Blanx.me, an Actor, and an Outreach manager for TN respite, and a songwriter making placement of some of your favorite TV Shows. I’m still creating music that influences the culture to stay above the ground. My story is being a butterfly and evolving every chance I get.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
This road was never smooth, what road doesn’t have its bumps though? I continue to upgrade my car (myself) for the bumps. I’m consistently learning the road of life to be able to drive in relaxation and peace. The struggles on the way have always been the gift of losing or not meeting expectations because they taught me how to win the next time.
So, I will say lose fast and bet on yourself fast so you can know the path to take. People think this is a picture-perfect brand or movement I’m building but it’s been discouraging but that’s why I’m inspiring. Please stay true to yourself and the magic will happen because you are one of one and that’s the specialness. Ignore the outside noise!
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a Nashville-based Hip-Hop Artist who specializes in storytelling. I am known for making music and creating paths for the hip-hop scene of Nashville.
I am proud of being a father and proud to make an impact with sound and action. What sets me apart from others is my intentionality, my heart for my music, and staying on my purpose of what I’m designed to do while on this planet we call Earth.
What matters most to you?
What matters the most to me is creating opportunities for my family, friends, and community. I want the Black entertainment culture of Nashville to have its flowers.
The reason why it matters to me is because when we do it, we inspire others to do it. We help the quality of life for so many humans in the world by passing down the inspiration and creating more role models that are deserving. Let’s be the change and stop waiting on it.
