Today we’d like to introduce you to Isaac Edwards.
Hi Isaac, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
For Isaac’s 7th birthday, he asked me for 1 thing, a lemonade stand. Of course, I built him the stand, thinking he would use it once or twice. To my surprise, he pulled it out several times a week that summer and for the next 5 summers. He would sit, for hours, in the front yard waiting for the next customer. He developed a faithful following that would stop every time they drove by to enjoy a nice cold drink and a great conversation.
For his 12th birthday, we started an LLC for him. He put a plan together to sell in Centennial Park, I got an appointment with Metro and he presented his plan. When the commissioner said “I don’t want the part to turn into a circus”, my heart dropped. I thought, in our first attempt at getting a permit, my poor son’s heart was going to be crushed. He paused and then said “But we don’t have a lemonade stand. Let’s do it”. Isaac was so excited. We went through the steps to get our local business license, get approved by Metro Health, and get insurance.
We now make lemonade each weekend (weather permitting) at Centennial Park, sharing a refreshing drink and great conversation with those who visit the stand.
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
We have overcome many challenges along the way, learning each step of the way. We had to figure out how to comply with the Metro Health code, which has specific regulations for commercial lemonade stands (stands that make more than $2,000 per year).
We also had to learn how to track and pay sales tax to the State each month. As we have grown, we have had to figure out where to buy lemons in large bulk.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Our goal is to make the very best lemonade in Tennessee, and maybe even in America.
Our ingredients are fresh and our formula has been 5 years in the making. We pride ourselves in the fact that we can fully customize our lemonade to our customer’s liking. It’s sweet and tangy and will bring a smile to your face.
Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
“Luck?” I don’t feel like we have had any luck, good or bad. Maybe a better description of what I feel is favor, is God’s favor. It’s been a tremendous amount of work and we have consistently put in the effort.
I think that’s the key to success, every day moving the ball forward. But, I will say that we have been tremendously blessed throughout the process.
