Alick Tsui

Hi Alick, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
Newfoundland and Labrador is so beautiful with its landscape and culture, I fell in love ever since I moved here over 30 years ago. I love to capture the beautiful shoreline and wildlife as well as the trailblazing music industry in the province.

For the past 15 years, I have been using social media to showcase the beauty and positive things happening around me, even documenting local festivals and events all year round. When photography is a passion, the venture just keeps growing day after day. I am honored and humbled to have received 4 awards for my photography volunteerism in the music and events communities.

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Photography is a fairly competitive industry as there are many talented photographers in every community. The challenging part is to market yourself with quality products. I have been integrating into the photography industry through many years of volunteering with charity groups helping out with local music artists and making connections.

It is important to invest in high-quality photographic equipment, using the most appropriate lenses for the occasion. Always remember to update all my social media platforms to ensure the community is well aware of my latest community involvement. Do not be upset if your requests get turned down.

Oftentimes, your persistence will pay off when your quality work and service are recognized.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a professional photographer who loves to capture all the beautiful and positive things in the community. I started with landscape photography as Newfoundland has the best scenic towns and shorelines in every town. As I started to know more about the Arts communities, I began to connect with musicians, venues, and festival organizers and became a regular photographer for events and festivals.

I have received recognition and features in local media, including magazines, local TV, and newspapers. I feel humbled and appreciative as a recipient of 4 awards covering local music events and festivals since 2021. I always take my time to perfect the post shots but am still able to deliver quality products the next business day, keeping my clients returning for the next event.

We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up.
I remember the first time I got interested in taking photos when my dad handed me his Fuji camera when I was a young teenager.

Ever since I looked through the viewfinder and captured the first row of film, I forever set my sights on becoming a great photographer when I grew up.
