Community Highlights: Meet Kris Malcontento of The Wiskey Hound

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kris Malcontento.

Hi Kris, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
Growing up in South Philly we had no BBQ Culture, but living in Fayetteville Arkansas I fell in love with all things BBQ, smoked foods, and whiskey. We created an amazing Bourbon Beer BBQ sauce back then and finally commercialized it once we lived in Nashville TN.

We have worked tirelessly to build a family business making products that I make, design labeling and packaging for, market and deliver to customers, and manage finances.

We are a husband and wife team; our daughter manages social media amongst other items that she’s just better at; my wife sticks to the culinary creativity and food safety aspects. We focus on creating unbeatable customer experiences and making our core Bourbon Beer BBQ Sauces that no one can compete with due to the substantial quantity and therefore unmistakable flavor of the bourbon in it.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
No! Ordering thousands of labels and finding a typo is something that makes you crazy but I’ve done it!

I’ve learned that the most valuable thing is sitting down with other small business owners and learning from each other. What works and what can you confirm is a good or bad business direction or practice?

This network has smoothed many struggles.

We make high-quality, multi-layered flavored luxury BBQ Products focused on our core Bourbon Beer BBQ Sauces. Our products contain substantial amounts of whiskey to impart an unmistakable flavor.

Everything is handmade. We are so proud of what we have built in such a short time and our growing wholesale business as well as loyal, repeat consumers.

Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
My Hounds! You can’t ask for more loyal friends than your dogs and you can’t stay mad or unhappy looking at droopy big eyes with long eyelashes and ears from someone who follows you everywhere and wants to help with everything.
