Today we’d like to introduce you to Emily Blumberg.
Hi Emily, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
Since I was a little girl, all I dreamed about was making it to a big city, getting into modeling, and creating my way in life. AKA, not being stuck in a small town working a 9-5 for the rest of my life. I was born and raised in the panhandle of Florida, specifically Seaside, FL. Beautiful place with world-renowned beaches, but too small for my liking.
Once I hit the age of 15, after many months of sending digitals to agencies and starting to post more on social media. I got scouted by Trudi Tapscott. In 2020, we started working together and I built up my knowledge about the industry and how to work as a model. I also started to use my social media as more than “just for fun”. A year later in November 2021, I went to my first photoshoot in New York City after being invited by Trudi and the team. After that, things started moving so quickly. I went back to New York for a test trip in January of 2022 and ended up signing with Supreme Management New York.
However, not too long after I suffered a serious decline in my health, physically and mentally. I just hit a brick wall with everything, including modeling. As I struggled for so long, I finally said enough is enough and decided something needed to be done, I needed a change. I listened to the instructions of my doctors, and also started working out and weightlifting with a friend in the summer of 2022. From there on, I fell in love. I realized how focusing on your overall health and wellness can quite literally heal you from the inside out. Slowly, I started coming back. I started my TikTok and ended up going viral, with multiple videos hitting 300,000+ views and gaining 5,000 followers in a month. While my socials were blowing up, I got scouted and signed with another modeling agency in Mexico, Wanted Bang Management. I went to Mexico in the fall of 2022 and ended up walking my first fashion show!
2023 hit and I knew this year was my year, in all aspects. I decided to follow my older sister to Nashville as she said it was a hotspot for new and upcoming business owners and creators, which she was so right about! After training hard and long hours in the gym, in May I became a certified personal trainer with ISSA. With this, I decided to start my online business and grow my social media even more. I now have a regular client base I train with, I hit 14,800 followers on TikTok last month, and I recently partnered with the beauty brand “Monat”.
With all of this, modeling is finally taking back off again too. My whole world changed as soon as I started making my health and wellness a priority and listening to my body and its needs. Looking back at the little girl who wanted to be exactly where I am sitting right now, a signed model, content creator, and in love with my work; It’s surreal. The most satisfying and liberating feeling.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been a smooth road whatsoever. In 2022, I hit an extreme decline in everything involving my mental and physical health. I gained severe cystic acne, and rapidly dropped in weight down to 90lbs, and after that, my mind shifted to a dark place. I spent a year, with the help of my doctors, family, and friends, healing and curing the pain I was in. I was able to cure my acne within a year, which is wild considering how severe it was.
And after starting to weightlift I gained 20 pounds back, which I didn’t think was going to be possible that fast. Because of the focus I placed on my physical health, I finally found peace again mentally as well. 2023 has been the most amazing, healing, learning-filled year. I found out how to solve my problems, found a new form of discipline, reversed years of mental trauma, and learned to protect my peace. All of this has brought me back to such an amazing point in my life and I couldn’t be any happier.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
As a professional model, content creator, and personal trainer, I do specialize in many different things.
Modeling and content creation are what I’m best known for. I started modeling when I was 15, and even before having always been in front of the camera. I’ve dreamed of modeling ever since I watched my first Victoria’s Secret fashion show in 2012. When I got scouted, I had to work on my posing, model walk, and other important details of being a working model. It’s a super cut-throat industry, so having a supportive agent, like the wonderful Trudi Tapscott, is detrimental.
I moved up in the industry very quickly, as well as on social media. Getting signed in New York the first year as a model is a crazy amazing accomplishment and takes so much hard work and discipline. Most people think modeling is just standing in front of a camera or walking 30 feet down a runway. Its representation of brands, partnerships, and networking. You have to promote yourself so much and put yourself out there. I’ve learned so much while working on set and with the people I have, and I can’t wait to get back to it in 2024 as a brand-new face!
My social media is almost at 15k followers, and I hit 130k likes across all videos since last year. This is the second biggest accomplishment I’ve ever made, along with growing my personal training business here in Nashville. Over the last year, I’ve made many strides in the social media industry, getting noticed by brands like YoungLA, Bucked Up, and multiple big creators in the space. The goal for 2024: is to hit 50k followers and open my gym/studio!
Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
Finding a mentor or having someone in your “niche” that you look up to, is so important. Whether it’s your mom, a close friend, or a celebrity, I think seeing someone be able to get to where you want to be, shows that it can happen, and hard work can put you in that place you want to be. I found a mentor in the modeling space. She is a Model signed with my mother’s agent, a business owner, model coach, and has been featured in sports-illustrated, wrangler ads.
She also is signed with one of the biggest modeling agencies in LA. I’ve worked with her on set, and she and Trudi coached me while I was in New York. and ultimately; she is who I look up to in my career. Someone who has gone through the roadblocks, gone through the struggle, gone through the battles that can hurt your career. And someone who also has extreme grace, and utter kindness, and has paved a path of her own for her life. That’s the type of person that should be your mentor, a person who you can learn from and collect the right guidance for your goals.
