Today we’d like to introduce you to Kylie Nadeau.
Hi Kylie, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My life changed (along with many others in March of 2020). I was working for a small start-up here in Nashville, TN and I received another job offer from a company that was based out of Chicago, Illinois. I put in my notice here for the company in Nashville and was fully planning to move to Chicago, IL in the summer of 2020. Unfortunately, after a few very difficult months of COVID, the Chicago job offer was rescinded and I was left with no job and making no money.
It was terrifying, to say the least, but a wonderful friend of mine connected me to an HR fractional company that had some contract recruiting work for me to start with. I took one contract which eventually grew into another, and another and another. I decided if I saved enough money to do branding for my company, I would jump ship and start a legal LLC. After 4 months of working in a contract capacity, I had saved up enough money to brand my recruiting agency, and People’s People was born. 2024 will be four years of running this business now!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
There have been struggles. My work ebbs and flows as many different contracts experience the same things in their business. My business heavily relies on word-of-mouth referrals and having other people who have worked with me refer me to their network and that can be difficult to rely on at times.
I’ve had to learn how to market and business develop on my own and build everything from scratch. It’s also been difficult to learn how to set my future self up for success because no one teaches you that in school. I’ve heavily relied on my mentors and advisors to help define that roadmap for me and ensure I am making the smartest decisions possible.
As you know, we’re big fans of People’s People. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
People’s People is a recruiting agency that focuses on bringing back the human element into recruiting. Let’s face it recruiting for your team and finding a new job is complicated. It’s time-consuming and requires great attention to detail on both sides of the house. I have always prided myself on being able to make thoughtful connections with all different sorts of individuals and so I built this recruiting agency with that ethos in mind.
People’s People is a fractional recruiting company, where we do not focus on traditional headhunters, but rather we partner with our clients to understand them. We want to understand their leaders, culture, mission, and values so that we can go out and recruit not on their behalf, but genuinely beside them to ensure the recruiting process. Most candidates that we speak with come to know that we are fully embedded with the clients that we serve and don’t even view us as an external agency. We value the candidate experience to the utmost degree and it’s our privilege to work alongside of clients to help them recruit candidates from the most diverse backgrounds and experiences.
We are in the business of being true confidants and partners to every single person that we work with and recruit for. What sets People’s People apart is that we are not a headhunting agency, but rather we genuinely work to deliver a recruiting experience that is unique to each of our client’s brands and we are there to run the process from start to finish, never leaving clients empty-handed.
We will guide them through the recruiting process and ensure that their open position is filled with the highest quality candidate on the market who will help their team scale efficiently and effectively.
Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting.
I wish that someone would have told me to try it earlier.
I had no idea that this way of working existed and I didn’t explore it until I was left with nothing else to try. There is always a route to try something new and sometimes all it takes is someone removing the veil from your eyes and showing that it truly is okay to go after new things and want more for yourself.
